  • Responsibilities

    This position is responsible and accountable for the supervision of screening and diagnosis of viral diseases. Primarily, but not exclusively, COVID-19 assays and procedures.

     

    • Supervises, evaluates and trains laboratory personnel and trainees in the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory. • Supervises the daily operation of laboratory activities, testing, and patient data flow.  • Responsible for maintaining quality control of the Laboratory. • Conduct proficiency testing and quality assurance according to department procedures. • Online and telephone communication with clients when needed regarding the clinical implications of SARS-CoV-2 infection.  • Implements molecular diagnostic and other essential techniques for the detection of SARS-CoV-2.  • Analyzes test results. • Signs normal test results. • Performs data entry and mailing of test results. • Maintains laboratory equipment condition and repairs. • Verifies and corrects client data for computer input. • Prepares laboratory result data for reporting to the state of TN and other agency within timeline. • Takes blood samples and nasopharyngeal swaps from Walk-ins and during community screenings for testing.  • Responsible for safeguarding maintaining, and inventorying all fixed assets in their respective areas and departments. • Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

    Required Skills

    • Must possess a thorough knowledge of and skills necessary to perform molecular diagnostic methodologies.

    • Must possess the ability to work in an area requiring sterile work habits and techniques.

    • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both verbal and written.

    • Ability to supervise, train, evaluate and motivate assigned personnel.

    • PC and other automated system proficiency, sufficient to operate position related software applications and network systems.

    • Must possess strong interpersonal skills.

     

    Required Experience

    • Bachelors ‘degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in hemoglobinopathy detection is required.
    • Registered and licensed by the State of Tennessee, as a Medical Laboratory Professional is required.
    • Licensed to practice, as a Medical Laboratory Supervisor is required.
