The Physician Assistant (PA) primary activity will be to perform COVID testing of patients on site at MMG clinics and in the Nashville community at COVID testing sites and with our mobile unit. The PA will also oversee program activities and quality improvement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and the therapeutic management of patients.
- Perform COVID testing in the community at sites run by Meharry, and for patients at MMG clinics. Use research and theoretical principles in implementing therapies that restore health, minimize complications, and manage risk factors; as we strive to integrate patient care across the continuum of health care services in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, families, and patients.
- Supervision of quality management and performance improvement and assistance in data management as needed
- Supervise medical assistants and patient service representatives (PSR) who will be assisting with COVID testing, monitoring of inventory, and coordination of testing activities.

- Knowledge of OSHA, infection control, and safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
- Knowledge of electronic chart documentation requirements and recording test results.

- Ability to work with multiple agencies and a multidisciplinary team.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with vulnerable and complex patients, diverse medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to operate computer and multi-function printer, general office equipment, and telephone equipment.
- Knowledge of commonly used computer software and excellent communication skills are required.
Required Experience
- Graduation from a CAHEA Accredited Physician’s Assistant Training Program is required.
- The applicant must be a Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) and hold a valid license to practice as a Physician Assistant from the Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners.
- Must hold a valid DEA license.
- Master’s degree in Healthcare and/or management experience.
- Possess Physician Assistant certification in specialty area.
- Current provider in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Eligible for a certificate of fitness to prescribe medication in the State of Tennessee, if applicable.
- At least three years of experience as a licensed Physician Assistant; infectious disease/COVID19 testing experience is desirable.
