    EF Academy Thornwood is seeking dynamic and experienced educators to join our Prep Program on a short-term contract. Prep Program Teachers work with international 9th and 10th-grade students to strengthen their academic language and skills in preparation for EF Academy’s rigorous high school curriculum. Positions are available in all content areas, and ideal candidates will have experience working with multilingual learners (MLLs) in an academic setting.

    The EF Academy Prep Program is designed to prepare international students in grades 9 and 10 for success in an immersive, English-speaking academic environment. Through a combination of content-specific instruction and targeted academic language development, Prep Program Teachers play a critical role in supporting students' readiness for full participation in EF Academy's internationally-minded high school curriculum.

    As a short-term Prep Program Teacher, you will teach one content area subject (such as English, math, science, social studies, or others) while embedding academic English language instruction and essential academic skills into your daily teaching. You will help students build confidence, develop executive functioning skills, and gain the academic language and strategies they need to thrive in an international boarding school environment.

    This position is ideal for educators with experience supporting multilingual learners (MLLs), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and international students in secondary education settings.

    Compensation: $1800

    Responsibilities

    • Teach one content area subject (English, math, science, social studies, or other) to small classes of international students in grades 9 and 10.
    • Integrate academic English language development and general academic skills into subject-specific instruction.
    • Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that align with the Prep Program’s goal of preparing students for EF Academy’s high school curriculum.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the varying English proficiency levels and academic needs of multilingual learners.
    • Provide personalized academic support and guidance to help students build confidence and independence.
    • Collaborate with the Prep Program team to monitor student progress and contribute to a supportive learning community.
    • Support students in developing executive functioning skills , including time management, study strategies, and organization.
    • Contribute to the positive culture of the EF Academy Prep Program and foster an inclusive, welcoming classroom environment.
    • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and parent communications as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required , Master’s degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field preferred.
    • Valid teaching credential or certification in a relevant content area (preferred but not required).
    • Experience working with multilingual learners (MLLs), English as an Additional Language (EAL), or international students in secondary education settings.
    • Strong understanding of academic English language development and language acquisition strategies.
    • Experience integrating academic skills development (e.g., critical thinking, study skills, executive functioning) into content area instruction.
    • Ability to design and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
    • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic, international educational setting.
    • Passion for working with international high school students and supporting their transition to an English-speaking academic environment.
