The Temporary Business Asset Analyst is responsible for providing reporting and technical accounting support. Under the direction of the Controller, the Temporary Accounting Analyst coordinates, directs, and participates in financial record-keeping, reporting, accounting, and related auditing functions to assure accurate and timely accounting and reporting of investment accounts in accordance with GAAP and FASB, federal, state, county and district requirements. This position manages tight deadlines and a multitude of activities including policy and procedure compliance, reporting and analysis, annual audit and tax assistance, external reporting activities, and support of technical accounting activities.
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Candidate preferred.
Required Experience
- One to three years of experience in accounting.
- Demonstrated understanding and interpretation of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and FASB standards.
- Knowledge of statistical and mathematical presentation of data.
- Ability to prepare reports; understand and interpret laws and rules; communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, provide professional accounting information to non-Accountants.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
- Reconcile fixed assets, including capitalization, depreciation, and reconciliation of related accounts, ensuring compliance with capitalization policies.
- Collaborate with Construction and Design Managers to review project spending against budget and work-in-progress, typically on a monthly basis.
- Oversee lease payments, ensure adherence to contract terms, and manage timely renewal of business licenses. Work closely with the University’s Asset Manager.
- Support the recording of trust and annuity transactions in collaboration with the Office of Advancement and external investment manager. Assist with investment reporting, accounting entries, income allocation, and spending transfers for university bonds and the Annuity and Life fund.
- Assist with endowment reporting, accounting entries, calculations of unitization, income allocation, and spending transfers for the University’s pooled endowment fund.
- Record and amortize lease assets and liabilities, ensuring compliance with lease accounting standard ASC 842, as directed by the Controller.
- Collaborate with the Business System Office and Accounts Payable to ensure timely property tax payments.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts.
- Contribute to the Chart of Accounts updates, specifically for Capital Projects and Trust/Annuity accounts, as needed.
- Prepare cost and revenue analyses, income and expense statements, and financial projections for capital projects.
- Provide timely responses to technical accounting inquiries.
- Consult with the Controller regarding policy and procedure interpretation.
- Prepare and review reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Develop ad-hoc reports and analyses for program and division leadership to support short- and long-term strategic planning. Complete special assignments as required.
- Assist the Controller with the preparation of Form 990, NDT, 403b audit, annual financial statement audits, and other external financial reports.
- Provide backup support for processes such as bond reporting and other duties as assigned by the Controller and team.
- Contribute to business office process improvements by suggesting enhancements and proactively learning new skills, procedures, and processes.

- PeopleSoft and Adaptive Insights a plus.
Compensation
- Grade 12: $30.67 to $35.27 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
