Detyens Shipyards has an ongoing program through Trident Technical College.  DETYENS SHIPYARDS PAYS FOR YOUR TUITION, BOOKS AND YOUR HOURLY PAY RATE FOR THE TIME THAT YOU ARE IN CLASS.

GOAL:  To select, develop and train high school graduates to become skilled craftsmen in hopes of becoming future leaders at DETYENS SHIPYARDS, INC.

Applicants would be considered employees in DETYENS TRAINING PROGRAM. (DTP)  If, after several months of showing interest in advancing within the company, the employee will be offered to join the Detyens Apprenticeship Program. INDIVIDUALS WITH BACHELORS DEGREES NEED NOT APPLY. 

A parallel course of academic associates learning and on-the-job Training (OJT) for a period ranging approximately 13 semesters.  The program is designed to develop the apprentice in the areas of technical and academic ability.  At the conclusion of the program the apprentice should have earned a CERTIFICATE IN LEADERSHIP AND BASIC INDUSTRIAL WORK SKILLS with an ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE IN GENERAL TECHNOLOGY.  The Apprentice should also have honed his/her skills to be placed in the 1st class category of their trade.

ELIGIBILITY FOR APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM:

While no experience is needed, candidates are required to have the following:

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Have a high school diploma/GED

• Qualifying Trident Technical College Placement test scores. (Placement Testing is offered at all TTC campuses and is at no charge to take one time.   For more information on Placement test and hours of operation go to https://www.tridenttech.edu/student/resources/testing/index.htm )
