Production and Web Designer Print & Mail Center (UB PMC) Reporting to
the Director or designee, the Production and Web Designer will focus on
the Universitys in-plant digital print and quality control while also
supporting the University copier fleet. The selected candidate will
possess a customer service orientation with a well-rounded background
covering all aspects of digital print production, equipment, software,
finishing, binding as well as experience in web design. Major Duties and
Responsibilities: * Process digital print & mail projects according to
specifications, cost saving methods and schedule; * Responsible for
improving print quality utilizing imaging tools, color profile and
maximizing cost savings by applying technical knowledge; * Create and
support visual imagery across a variety of platforms and application of
design, illustration, photographic and web facilitating computer
software; * Pre-press tasks: preparing electronic files for printing,
review and manipulate digital customer files, troubleshooting problem
files for document integrity using Adobe InDesign and other software; *
Skilled at setting up and operating bindery/finishing equipment
Challenge Paper Cutter, Standard Horizon Perfect Binder, Standard
Horizon Creaser Folder; * Troubleshoot print software/hardware problems
to proactively resolve issues; * Inspects equipment, structures, or
materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Analyzes information and evaluating results to choose the best
solution and solve problems. * Support further build out of quality
control processes and conducts tests and inspections of print
orders/products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or
performance. * Provides technical assistance to less experienced
co-workers and student employees * Assist in the hiring, supervision and
training of non-exempt and student employees * Provides information to
supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form,
e-mail, or in person. * Provide coverage as needed for UB PMC related
duties * Other duties as assigned; duties may be modified and/or added
to at any time. Required Qualifications Education and experience: *
Bachelors Degree or Technical School degree in Graphic Arts preferred or
equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable
knowledge and skills were acquired with a minimum or 2+ years in a
digital University setting or in plant or commercial print facility. *
Experience with digital printing presses and Adobe Creative Suite is
required. The applicant should exhibit advanced knowledge of digital
print technology and have an understanding of project management. *
Experience applying graphic design and visual presence to website *
Experience with finishing/binding including but not limited to:
high-speed floor model paper creaser folder, electronic paper cutter,
perfect book binder, inserter folder, and other related
bindery/finishing equipment; * Advanced knowledge with computers Mac and
PC, software and related technology as it pertains to job function
including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite specifically InDesign,
Illustrator, Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, digital printing presses
and a variety of digital file formats; Skills, knowledge and
characteristics: * Capacity to expeditiously master operational
mechanics of digital print, bindery/finishing equipment and mailing
equipment/software; learn and assimilate new information quickly and
solve problems effectively and creatively; * Experience with
conceptualizing and actualizing digital display and print campaigns with
high attention to detail and dedication to a quality product; *
Knowledge of the characteristics of various papers reactions to print
and finishing applications needed to achieve effective print production:
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; ability to forecast
and identify technology solutions for digital related needs. * Strong
attention to quality and visual details; cost conscious; work with
confidential and time sensitive materials. * This individual needs to
have the highest level of commitment to customer service excellence. *
The selected candidate will possess strong organizational,
communications skills, analytical and reasoning abilities with the
demonstrated competency to oversee multiple tasks; * Requires a
team-player orientation to work with a broad range of internal and
external constituents including students, faculty and staff; * Able to
maintain a pleasant and professional manner while multitasking;
demonstrating flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high
volume environment, and prioritize around tight deadlines; * Must be
able to adjust schedule to meet departmental needs including flexibility
for evening and weekends as required; * Valid drivers license and
maintain a driving record in accordance with the UB Driving Requirements
and Driver Safety Policy. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with
International Mail preparation & regulations using: mail meter,
addressing computer/printer, tabber, folder inserter and other mail
equipment * Experience with USPS mail standards & preparation
requirements; * Previous supervisory experience * Knowledge of In-Plant
