Nature of Work The Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a clinical care and research institute for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Psychological Health (PH) conditions such as post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. The primary focus of the MIBH is to care for former military personnel who have separated from active duty, with special consideration for those who were separated with Other Than Honorable or Dishonorable discharge status due to TBI or PH conditions. It will also serve civilian adults who have sustained mild to moderate TBI and are experiencing ongoing neurological problems and co-morbid PH conditions. The MIBH offers intensive outpatient care with detailed diagnostic and treatment services in an intensive program that integrates conventional medicine with complementary and alternative medicine. The MIBH is currently seeking an Art Therapist functioning as a member of the integrated therapies team. The full-time Art Therapist is responsible for creating the art therapy program as well as supporting patients in the treatment program by providing developmentally appropriate art therapy interventions. The Art Therapist creates, plans, organizes, and directs art therapy groups and individual sessions and collaborates with other members of the MIBH team in planning art therapy in accordance with patients neurological and psychological needs, capabilities, and interests. Examples of Work Performed * Develop and conduct Art Therapy in a group Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) setting with focus on promoting development, self-expression, and mastery * Develop and conduct individual adjunctive art therapy assessments and/or therapy sessions for patients who would benefit from an art-based approach * Participates in multidisciplinary treatment planning sessions. Documents patient progress in a measurable quantifiable manner. Completes Weekly Summary of patient progress in treatment in patient record * Create, function and consult as a member of the Integrative Therapy Team and as a part of the entire interdisciplinary treatment team, integrating goals and interventions to promote optimal patient care that is cohesive and targeted * Motivating interest in others to participate in expressive arts interventions * Assessing patient needs and developing therapeutic interventions suitable to individual and group interests, needs, and capacities * Maintains Expressive Arts supplies and equipment in an orderly and safe manner * Understanding of art methods and materials * Stay current on art therapy research and interventions related to traumatic brain injury This description is a summary only and is describing the general level of work being performed, it is not intended to be all-inclusive. Salary and Benefits The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation. Minimum Qualifications * Master's Degree in Art Therapy or closely related field * Licensed as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Registered Art Therapist Board Certification (ATR-BC) * Minimum of two (2) years experience in designing, coordinating and implementing art therapy programs. Preferred Qualifications * Minimum of three (3) years experience working in a military/veterans environment. * Licensed Clinical Social Worker * Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) * Minimum of three (3) years experience in teaching and coaching groups and individuals in stress management and resiliency. * Minimum of three (3) years experience in treatment modalities around trauma-related psychological disorders (acute stress disorder/PTSD), and Traumatic brain injury.
