    The OFFICE OF THE PROVOST invites applications for a BUDGET ANALYST II. This position is responsible for planning, analyzing and monitoring the budgets of the departments reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs (Faculty Development Office, Franke Global Leadership Initiative, Global Engagement Office, UM Online, and UM Summer).

     

    This position provides financial guidance and support to the Vice Provost and department directors which will be used for reporting, planning, and decision-making. This position is also responsible for: data entry, payroll processing, invoicing, creation of detailed financial reports and reconciliation of State, designated, auxiliary and grant budgets. Position is also responsible for grant preparation and administration for departments reporting to the Vice Provost.

     

    This position assists directors with building budgets, provides directors with spending reports, advising when spending activity goes outside approved budgets, and consults with directors on how to get spending within a budget. Position checks accuracy of figures, calculations and spending by departments. Position assists department staff with accounts payable, pro-card management, travel paperwork, Grizmart, requisitions for contracted service agreements and supplies and special projects.

     

    This position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge of the University of Montana financial systems; develop a working knowledge need to make financial decisions based upon knowledge of funding requirements and financial, information obtained from University of Montana financial systems, and develop a working knowledge of all university platforms such as U-Approve, GrizMart, and Banner.

     

    Required Skills

    • Experience applying professional budget management practices and procedures and accounting principles.
    • Highly developed communication skills (including written, verbal, and interpersonal communications).
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
    • Strong organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.
    • Ability to consistently work under strenuous time constraints in order to meet deadlines, while maintaining acute attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to work projects independently.

     

    Minimum Required Experience

    • High school diploma (or equivalency) in addition to two (2) years of closely related experience; or any combination of experience and education that provides the competencies necessary to successfully discharge the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.

     

     

     


    Position Details

     

    POSITION TITLE:                    BUDGET ANALYST II

    POSITION NUMBER:              NEW

    DEPARTMENT:                       Office of the Provost

    WORK SCHEDULE:                 Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year. Position requires an alternative work schedule.

    SALARY:                                $17.876/HR – Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department.

    PROBATIONARY PERIOD:        Six months minimum
