    Job Description

    The School of Forensic Psychology at Walden University seeks a Walden doctoral student for the 10-hour per week position of Graduate Assistant - Researcher.

    The GA will assist the program with technical assistance relationships between doctoral students in the process of establishing or changing doctoral committees.

    The GA through one-on-one interactions with students will connect them with committee members and assist the research coordinator in recording new assignments. supportive Walden resources.

    This individual will also provide new students with tips for success, strategies for handling challenges, and guidance from a peer’s perspective.

    The GA reports to the Program Director / Associate Dean and is a virtual position.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    In this role, the Graduate Assistant - Researcher

    • Set and maintain a regular schedule for contacting students and faculty by email or Skype for Business.
    • Engage with students proactively, respond promptly to interactions and questions, and provide students with peer-to-peer support during their first term(s) of doctoral dissertation study.
    • Provide students guidance on Walden Student Success resources, support services, and tips to prepare for and attend their first dissertation class.
    • Refer students to other departments, such as Academic Advising and Financial Aid, when appropriate.
    • Be flexible to assist throughout the week, including evenings and weekends, to best serve the needs of a global student body.
    • Attend departmental team meetings with Research/Program Coordinator, Core Faculty and Program Director.
    • Commit approximately 40 hours per month (10 hours per week) to this role.

    TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL, and PEOPLE SKILLS REQUIRED:

    Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal relationship skills.

    Prior experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring students preferred.

    Skilled at connecting and building rapport with people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

    Excellent problem-solving skills.

    Must have excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.

    Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Canvas and Outlook).

    Ability to compile and report interaction data to Research/Program Coordinator on a weekly basis.

    Ability to adapt to changes of program cycle during the academic year.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    Must be a current, active Walden doctoral student with at least four quarters or three semesters of enrollment, currently in coursework stage of program (not proposal or dissertation stage) with one residency successfully completed.

    Must be in good academic standing with the university, with 3.5 GPA and no holds on student account or code of conduct violations.

    Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Skype, and Outlook)

    Must demonstrate that she/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
