hour Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works
approximately 40 hours per week. Mandatory weekend and holiday coverage
on a rotating basis. Department Name/Job Location This position is in
the Department of Comparative Medicine. The position is located at the
Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Provide
basic care and husbandry for a variety of animal species in accordance
with established standard operating procedures (SOP), U.S.D.A., NIH,
University and other government guidelines. PRIMARY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: * Maintain barrier rooms for those working with
rodents. * Clean and change animal cages. * Feed, water and observe
animals. * Report daily animal census and keep close surveillance of
animal activity and health status. * Observe and monitor signs of
unusual problems, behaviors, illness or death in animals and report to
Supervisor, Facility Manager or DCM Veterinarian. * Clean barrier rooms
and maintain room sanitation schedule. * Perform general housekeeping
duties. * Perform additional duties as required by
supervisor/department. Required Qualifications * High School diploma or
equivalent. * Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must obtain AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal
Technician level (ALAT) within two years of position acceptance.
Vaccinations and hearing protection required through participation in
the Occupational Health & Safety Program. Preferred Qualifications * 3
years experience in a laboratory setting with animal care preferred. *
Up to 2 years post high school education at an accredited institution
may be substituted for experience. * Experience preferred in laboratory
animal care functions. Salary Range The hiring range for this position
is $12.45 - $15.20 per hour. Pre-Employment Screening Offers made for
