OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT:
We are seeking a teacher to join our History & Social Science department, where they will instruct core World History courses across the Middle School and Upper School Divisions. Marlborough’s World History courses emphasize the development of historical and critical thinking skills, and teachers collaborate as part of a team to ensure a consistent and cohesive experience for students. Special attention is paid to non-Western regions and their histories while exploring global political, cultural, economic, and social evolution. Beyond classroom teaching, this position offers the opportunity to be an active participant in the dynamic Marlborough community, engaging in various aspects of school life.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four history sections.
Collaborate with fellow history faculty in teacher teams, contributing to lesson preparation as needed.
Plan, prepare, and deliver academically sophisticated and pedagogically engaging lessons for the appropriate developmental level and course designation.
Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
Adhere to Marlborough’s academic policies, guidelines, and expectations.
Serve as a grade-level advisor to a group of approximately 12 students.
Participate actively in department, grade-level, and school activities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s of Arts in History or another discipline in the Social Sciences is required. A graduate degree in History or another discipline in the Social Sciences is strongly preferred. Expertise in a non-Western region is desired.
A minimum of 3 years of proven success teaching World History at the secondary level.
Demonstrates confidence in their subject matter and pedagogical expertise, while staying dedicated to ongoing professional development and innovation in both areas.
Thrive in collaborative environments and excel at designing and executing curriculum as a member of a teaching team.
Possess an interest, enthusiasm for, and commitment to teaching middle school students in addition to high school students.
Has a passion for supporting the developmental needs of teenagers, with the ability to balance high expectations with a high level of support.
