    Job Description

    We are searching for a reliable, trustworthy swimming coach to join our company. The swimming coach’s responsibilities include analyzing swimming techniques and determining skill levels, educating swimmers on various techniques and styles, and overseeing training. You should also recruit new talent and prepare swimmers for meets.

    The Head Swim Coach SJCC Aquatics shall provide leadership for the development and implementation of both short-term objectives and long-range goals of the swim team. To be successful as a swimming coach, you should be empathetic, patient, and understand that swimmers have varying abilities. Exceptional swimming coaches are those who place performance over results and are able to motivate and inspire.

    Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Head Swim Team Coach oversees and directs the swim team as well as assists in coordinating swim practice and individual lessons. This includes maintaining a high level of communication with fellow coaches, participants, parents, officials and administration, running daily practices, attending events (competitive and social), completing meet entries, seasonal scheduling, planning program capacities and supervision of assistant coaches. This position assists with the development, organization and implementation of high-quality competitive swim team program(s) in accordance with the SJCC mission, strategic plan, goals and all policies and procedures of SJCC best practices.

    PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT:

    ● The Head Coach is responsible for setting the direction and the vision for the team.

    ● The Head Coach shall design, schedule and conduct work-outs and practices.

    ● The Head Coach will supervise all swim coaches and practices.

    ● The Head Coach shall coordinate all aspects involved in hosting competitions.

    ● The Head Coach is responsible for all swimmers while on the premises.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    • High School Diploma or equivalent • Related experience in administration, lifeguarding and swim instruction preferred • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word • Previous competitive coaching experience/participation is required • Knowledge of rules, regulations and guidelines of USA Swimming. • Requires ability to professionally and effectively communicate with members, staff and supervisors; maintain confidentiality and exchange accurate information.

    • Requires ability to effectively interact with, lead, and motivate members who have a variety of abilities and needs. • Must demonstrate initiative, strong leadership and communication skills, and have the ability to provide guidance to staff and volunteers with a variety or educational and experiential backgrounds. • Strong administrative, organizational, and computer skills are required • Knowledge of swimming software, timing equipment and timing system equipment is preferred, willing to train.

    Swimming Coach Requirements:

    ● Must have one to three (3-5) years of coaching or competitive swimming experience.

    ● Completed courses in swimming instruction required.

    ● Relevant license or certification required.

    ● First-aid training recommended.

    ● Excellent lifesaving skills.

    ● Ability to determine swimming level and analyze techniques.

    ● Strong organizational and management skills.

    ● Good knowledge of health and nutrition.

    ● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    ● A positive attitude and willingness to work the required hours.

    Swimming Coach Responsibilities:

    ● Determining ability and skill level before setting up training programs.

    ● Developing and implementing training programs that focus on improving technique, stroke placement, speed, and style.

    ● Teaching brand new swimming styles or strokes.

    ● Educating swimmers on water safety and providing lifesaving training sessions.

    ● Using a range of activities to improve water confidence.

    ● Setting training goals and objectives for teams as well as individual swimmers.

    ● Teaching and perfecting skills like flips, kicks, body rolls, floating, and breath control.

    ● Ensuring the pool or training area is clean, well-maintained, and free of hazards.

    ● Scouting swimmers and preparing teams and individuals for swim meets.

    Certifications in the following safety areas:

    ● CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED

    ● Lifeguard Training

    ● Safety for Swim Coaches

    ● Must successfully pass a background check

    Physical Requirements

    The employee is expected to meet the physical requirements of the position, which may include, a frequent amount of sitting, standing and walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Lifting requirement of the position may be greater depending on the particular job to be performed.

    Essential Functions

    • Works with the Aquatics Director to provide personal and social development for lifetime skills by developing and improving the technical and physical skills of swimming through effective practice sessions. Plan curriculum and manages practice sessions. • Works with the Aquatics Director to encourage healthy competition through swim meet involvement. Prepares swim meet information, entries and registrations, attends meets, directs and manages warm ups and team discipline, provides encouragement and motivation, and manages award distribution. • Works with the Aquatics Director to facilitate socialization, participation and interaction of all participants through active involvement in safe, fun and developmentally appropriate activities; provides adaptations based on individual needs and utilizes positive behavior guidance techniques with participants • Report to the Aquatic Director on matters related to the Swim Team (i.e. assistant coaches, practice schedules, team development, etc.) • Posting all fees related to swim team. • Ensure the safety of all members and guests, understands/reviews all safety rules and emergency procedures. Promotes and enforces safe behaviors and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with SJCC policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required • Knows and understands aquatic programs and department policies and is able to clearly explain information to members • Communicates clearly and professionally with members, guests, supervisor, and co- workers as needed. Respects the confidentiality of all members, volunteers and staff at all times.
