This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

    Job Description

    • Responsible in the determination of weld quality according to applicable codes and/or specifications or contract documents.
    • Verify welder qualifications/certifications, procedures or repair procedures such as specified welding or joining processes, shielding gases, filler metals, weld joint preparations have been followed per specifications.
    • Inspect incoming work performed by private contractors to ensure all requirements have been met.
    • Prepare quality feedback reports and computer input forms indicating acceptance and rejection data for the quality control reporting systems.
    • Monitor and make recommendations on the established processes of the work centers to which assigned to achieve continuous process improvement.

    Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Welding Inspector ~ without more than normal supervision. Performing inspections on a variety of fabricated subassemblies, storage trailers, brackets, and/or mounts used in electronics equipment systems. Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, demonstrating proper work processes, utilizing quality standards. Operating measuring instruments such as scale dividers, surface gauges, steel squares, and/or micrometers. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Requires light to moderate lifting of tools and metal parts; frequent standing and walking. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is usually performed in well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop environments associated with the welding, sheet metal and machine tool trades or at nearby inspection stations. Exposed to loud noises from shop machines, possible cuts from handling metal parts. Chance of eye injury from flying metal chips and arc welding. Required to wear appropriate protective clothing and gear.
