  • Responsibilities

    Job description

    • Supporting the Structured Finance team in originating, structuring and monitoring asset backed exposures held on balance sheet or issued into the public or private placement markets
    • Provide administrative support to the team including regulatory returns, portfolio and transaction management and other ad-hoc tasks as requested by other team members

    Principal Accountabilities

    • Assist the deal Directors on the team with origination and structuring of new structured finance transactions
    • Preparation of structuring, marketing, pricing, and closing materials for potential securitization clients
    • Analysis and use of Excel spreadsheet as well as other software packages (CAS, Intex, etc.) to analyze performance of clients’ asset data; collateral, deal structure, etc.
    • Review of documentation research/analysis under direction of team head or Director
    • Review of periodic performance data received from clients
    • Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved
    • Build and run complex financial models (RMBS, ABS, CRT products, etc.), working closely with deal teams and clients to produce financial models consistent with HSBC best practice principles
    • Undertake all required activities as directed by line manager or as agreed in annual objectives in support of the development of the SF business

    Customers / Stakeholders

    • Internal deal team leaders, team members and colleagues from other teams
    • External clients of the bank, dealing with existing transaction queries, new transaction execution and other ad-hoc projects
    • Develop relationships within SF and wider banking group in the US and with SF teams in other regions
    • Internal Clients - Provision of information to Regulatory Reporting, Finance, Legal, Loan Agency, Accounting and Product Control as required

    • Strong teamwork required both internally and with client representatives and adapt to a potentially changing role
    • Demonstrate flexibility to work across mandates and industry sectors as required
    • Training and guidance to analysts and interns
    • Share information, knowledge and ideas with rest of team
    • Collaborate with other team members to ensure a good understanding of all internal and external issues affecting the team

    Operational Effectiveness & Control

    • Understand and ensure compliance with, all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved
    • Adhere to all relevant HSBC and SF procedures, policies and compliance requirements
    • Ensure that the SF Desk Instruction Manual and Portfolio Oversight Committee guidance is reviewed regularly and their contents are adhered to

    Major Challenges

    • The role requires strong analytical skills (primarily Excel based but including other software as well), combined with an ability to understand and communicate the relationship between the numerical analysis and wider commercial and strategic transaction issues
    • Ability to interact with clients, colleagues, third-parties and advisers with practical application and responsiveness and forethought to involve senior colleagues at the right time
    • Ability to maintain a consistent level of accuracy in production of all information for both internal and external clients
    • Manage a high workload and ensure that all deadlines are met
    • Ability to communicate effectively with other areas within the bank to assist the team in meeting its objectives

    • Is aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations

    Observation of Internal Controls

    • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
    • Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy

    For this role, HSBC targets a fixed pay range between $150,000 and $200,000. The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.     • Excellent academic background (at least bachelor’s degree)
    • Demonstrated strong analytical skills and advanced spreadsheet skills
    • Good knowledge of financial markets and finance and credit principles
    • 5 years experience in banking, asset management, corporate treasury, accountancy or equivalent field
    • FINRA series 7, 63 and 79 licenses are required - a 120-day timeframe to obtain the licenses can be granted at the manager’s discretion
