An employee in this class is responsible for performing service maintenance to all city pools and ornamental fountains, this includes monitoring, troubleshooting and repairing chlorinators, chemical feeders, filters, valves, motors, pumps and other pool equipment. Maintains proper swimming pool water chemistry to include the calibration and adjustment of chemical dispensers so pools are in compliance with Health Department standards. Diagnoses mechanical problems, identifies, repairs, reports and communicates pool operational and maintenance needs to supervisor and aquatics staff. May supervise other City employees where the maintenance and repairs involve more extensive effort and additional employees are assigned. Work assignments are obtained either orally or in written form from a supervisor and the results are reviewed by a supervisor through reports or inspection while work is in progress or after completion. Examples of Duties ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS Conducts daily water quality tests at pools and makes appropriate adjustments in order to obtain satisfactory water chemistry standards; monitors all chemical injection systems and makes necessary corrections to include the calibration and adjustment of chemical dispensers, cleans and calibrates hrr/orp probes. Makes daily inspections of all pools and mechanical equipment, performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots and repairs problems as needed; cleans, repairs, replaces a variety of pool- filters that include Diatomaceous earth, cartridge and sand. Performs maintenance tasks that include checking and correcting circulation and water level, backwashing, replacing feeders and valves. Removes and replaces various pumps and motors, conducts electrical troubleshooting, and minor repairs, installs and replaces pipes, pumps, small and large motors, chemical dispensers and various valves. Makes daily facility records of chemical readings and maintenance tasks accomplished. Maintains ornamental fountains and water wall to include cleaning and water chemistry. Obtains quotes and information on updating equipment and supplies available, recommends pool equipment and supply purchases, and purchases parts and supplies required for repairs. Provides updates and information to Aquatics staff regarding pool equipment, chemical balances and problems. Annual Leave Annual leave may be taken as earned after completion of (90) calendar days. Maximum accumulation each fiscal year is 260 hours. At time of resignation or retirement, employee is paid for all annual leave accrued at their current rate of pay. Upon separation of employment due to retirement, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of fifty percent (50%) of the employee's current rate of pay at the time of retirement. Sick Leave Conversion After completion of one (1) year of continuous, full-time employment with the City, an employee may convert their unused portion of their first six (6) days (maximum of forty-eight (48) hours) of accrued sick leave into annual leave. Conversions are subject to the following: A minimum of 96 unused sick leave hours accrued prior to hours being converted, total eligible sick leave hours to be converted shall be reduced hour-for-hour by any sick leave hours utilized during the eligible benefit period, and conversion subject to annual leave accrual cap.
