CME Group’s Corporate Strategy & Business Development division is at the forefront of steering the corporation's strategic trajectory with a keen focus on organic and inorganic growth initiatives. This team works closely with senior leadership across all departments (e.g. Sales, Business Line Management, Technology, Clearing, Legal, Research & Development, FP&A, etc.) to identify short and long-term growth opportunities, as well as solve critical business challenges. Charged with the mission of driving corporate expansion and strategic alignment across CME Group stakeholders, the team excels in the art of crafting, fine-tuning, and delivering recommendations to senior leadership and CME’s Board of Directors.
This role will assist in framing, analyzing, and recommending choices for the enterprise. The individual will assist in the development of short and long-term strategies for various business areas within the organization by researching, analyzing, and compiling qualitative and quantitative information in a concise and high-quality manner for presentations and discussions with senior management and business leaders. The individual will also be assisting in research and analysis of potential merger & acquisition opportunities, strategic partnerships, and other commercial opportunities.
The Corporate Strategy and Business Development Intern will be expected to take initiative, work independently, and participate in cross-functional teams to produce high-quality work.

Responsibilities:
Assist in researching multiple topics for strategic initiatives: Conduct market research, synthesize findings, and work with senior team members to propose recommendations that shape company and product strategy through presentations and detailed analysis.
Investigate and provide analysis of competitors, partners, business models, market sizing, and industry trends.
Assist in deriving strategic conclusions and recommendations by analyzing qualitative and quantitative information.
Investigate and provide analysis of recent merger and acquisition (M&A) activity, venture funding, and market trends. Conduct market landscape analyses and reviews of companies of potential interest.
Assist in the analysis of potential external opportunities (mergers & acquisition, joint ventures, commercial partnerships, etc.) through data gathering and sometimes financial modeling. Analysis could also include Discounted Cash Flows, Trading Multiples, and Comparable Transactions modeling.
Assist in other ad hoc projects including comps repository build out, strategic sourcing pipeline, and competitor profile benchmarking.
Develop understanding of key products and business functions within CME Group.
Skills / Software Requirements:
Strong analytical skills essential; financial modeling experience helpful but not required.
Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or Google Workspace skills required.
Familiarity with Bloomberg terminal and/or S&P Capital IQ is a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Self-starter with the ability to work/collaborate effectively within a team.
Motivated to learn more about, and potentially pursue a career in, the financial services industry.
Relevant coursework (e.g., finance, strategy, data analysis) is a plus.
Education:
Minimum GPA of 3.0
