    Position Title: Internal Auditor

    Reports To: Director of Internal Audit Status: Salary; Exempt

    Position Summary: Perform audits of operations, internal control systems, financial records, and compliance. Evaluate the adequacy of operational procedures, internal controls, and financial transactions to ascertain the bank's (a) general operating efficiency, (b) compliance with laws, regulations, managerial policies, and (c) adherence to generally accepted accounting principles. Maintain appropriate documentation of internal audit activities. Research and evaluate new or amended state or federal laws and regulations. Provide support for external audits and examinations.

    Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

    Makes sure that the bank’s policies and procedures are in line with all bank rules and regulations.

    Researches questions regarding banking rules and regulations and ensures that the institution does not break any laws.

    Performs audits of bank policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations.

    Reviews internal controls and procedures for new bank products and services.

    Understands and provides resources regarding public interest and consumer protection laws.

    Audits the bank’s departmental management to make sure all policies and procedures are being followed.

    Provides guidance to bank staff by acting in a “compliance help desk” capacity through support with the compliance officer.

    Initiates non-biased investigations when potential non-compliance incidents take place within the institution.

    Provides support and assistance to outside auditors and examiners when necessary.

    Conducts follow-up reviews of financial, operational or regulatory deficiencies noted during audits.

    Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

    Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, law or business or equivalent combination of experience and education. A valid Driver’s License is required. Some banking and/or audit experience preferred. Willingness to obtain certification or industry accreditation (e.g. CIA, CFE, QIAL, CRMA, CRCM, etc.) within two years of employment.

    Specific Skills Required: Ability to communicate, written and verbal, effectively with people both internally and externally. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong analytical skills. Ability to multi-task and work in high volume environment. Organizational and time management skills. Ability to work well independently and with others. Proficiency with Windows and Excel.

    Competencies: Problem solving, strategic thinking, critical thinking, decision making, and strong collaboration.

    System Accesses: Fiserv Precision, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.

    Equipment Used: Office equipment which includes computer, multi-line phone system, multi-function unit, etc..

    Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Frequent travel between facilities will be required. Prolonged (90%) sitting and periodic (less than 10% of the time) physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds; Constant and repetitive use of arms and hands below shoulder level for computer usage; This position exists in an office environment requiring the individual to perform normal activities including, but not limited to, lifting, filing and retrieving, operating office equipment, etc.
