Markets Treasury is responsible for management of the HSBC Bank USA N.A. Investment Portfolio.
Key responsibilities for the business include:
Management of structural interest rate risk of the bank.
Formulation and implementation of interest rate, investment, liquidity, and funding strategies for the bank in line with overall policies and procedures via HSBC’s relevant governance structure.
Markets Treasury is a profit center and whilst managing risk, liquidity and funding is the primary driver, it is charged with doing so in the context of agreed financial targets.
Management of on-balance sheet assets and off-balance sheet liabilities that involve multiple considerations such a total return, total gain/loss, net interest income, return on risk-weighted assets, and liquidity objectives.
Ensure that the liquid asset buffer of investment securities represents a diversified monetizable cohort - in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements.
Management of the bank’s US dollar cash position including the Federal Reserve Bank account and intraday liquidity activities.
Identification, development, and implementation of balance sheet management solutions including the creation and management of swap hedging programs associated with fixed and floating rate assets and liabilities on the balance sheet.
Partnering with broader areas of the firm including legal, capital, liquidity, risk, operations, product control and other groups to implement enterprise-wide balance sheet solutions and initiatives in line with the firm’s overall objectives and strategies.
Supporting the firm’s broader transformation efforts and initiatives as a pivotal member of Global Treasury.
The position within Markets Treasury reports to the Chief Investment Officer. Primary responsibilities for the role include:
Develop and manage accurate, high quality analytics functionality which supports management of risks within the Investment Portfolio, including but not limited to interest rate, convexity, yield curve, prepayment, and credit risks.
Perform detailed Management Information analysis to support decision making on liquidity, market, and credit risks.
Understand the nature of the risks to which Markets Treasury is exposed and responsible for managing. Quantify and monitor key drivers of the risk position. Implement scenario analysis, return comparisons and other sophisticated tools to support risk management and guide investment decisions.
Support business in the delivery of overall business objectives as set out in the annual Global performance scorecard. These include measures around financial targets (Revenues, Costs, RWAs) as well as non-financial measures / obligations centered around Liquidity Risk Management, Strategic priorities, and Risk and Compliance related topics (e.g. Conduct, benchmarks, operation risk).
Effectively collaborate with independent functions to be comfortable with data integrity and quality not only of the analytics which they produce, but also the supporting models.
Liaising with Markets Treasury team members on local and global level, strengthening relationships with Global Treasury team.
Manage and mitigate operational and conduct risk in day to day operations. In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structures referred to as the ‘Three Lines of Defense.’ Jobholder must understand their position as the First Line of Defense and operate within operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure.
Requirements:
Degree level education with strong academic record. CFA or other advanced degree a plus.
Highly analytical background with track record of producing quality analysis, strong problem solving skills, attention to detail are a must.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal and written, as jobholder will be regularly interacting between various internal and external stakeholders.
Must be able to collaborate effectively with a team of high performing, technical individuals.
Ability to resolve complex problems with minimal guidance.
Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills, as well as operate under pressure.
Possess technical knowledge and ability to navigate complex, IT environments.
Candidate must demonstrate strategic thinking, pro-active ‘can-do’ attitude, ability to challenge the norm.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Technical understanding of programming languages such as Python; effectively leverage knowledge of programming languages to manage large and complex Investment Portfolio.
Experience working in a financial services firm a plus, but not required.
