JOB SUMMARY: Processes basic and complex Life or Annuity Beneficiary Claims from start-to-finish, including customer correspondence, customer phone calls, and processing the claim in the administration system. Job Description REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Manager or Director. No direct reports. CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Receive and respond to customer/broker/agent inquiries. 2. Works with beneficiaries to claim their proceeds and proficiently explain available options. 3. Review, research and interpret records/paperwork and make accurate claim decisions. 4. Review and approve requests for withdrawals, exchanges, deposits, annuity purchases and contract cash outs. 5. Perform beneficiary research to determine proper payment of claims. 6. Maintain appropriate records in compliance with Regulatory Service Agreement (RSA) and internal requirements. 7. Approve and process business in accordance with government regulations, contract provisions and internal procedures and controls. 8. May be responsible for suspense clearing including 1099 information reporting, 712 reporting and various other manual steps for proper tax, legal and reserve reporting. 9. May have payment authorization limits for life claims up to $250,000. 10. Partners with other Claims Specialists for opinions and more complex cases or analysis. 11. May serve on special projects. 12. May recommend process changes and enhancements. 13. May train/on-board new associates. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: Undergraduate degree in Business or Finance preferred. License/Certification/Designation: Not required. Experience: 2-4 years experience in Life and/or Annuities - OR- claims experience in another line of business. Knowledge: Knowledge of general business practices. Detailed knowledge of Annuity or Life Claims, business rules, processing procedures and insurance company terminology. Skills/Competencies: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents. Ability to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to meet internal customer needs and provide service by informing customers of the claims process and ensuring a positive customer experience. Solid written and verbal communication skills. Requires use of basic math. Ability to operate personal computer and software for claims-related and other business applications.
