Through its sharp focus on clients goals, a rigorous due-diligence process and access to Blackstones global insights, BAAM strives to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns across market cycles while preserving capital during stressed market environments Job Title: Analyst Business and Financial Evaluation (BFE) Job Description: BAAMs Business and Financial Evaluation (BFE) Team is responsible for performing initial and ongoing operational due diligence with respect to BAAMs underlying hedge fund managers and other key business relationships, across all BAAM platforms. BFE performs over 150 operational due diligence meetings per year. Managers are evaluated based upon all non-investment aspects of the business including business viability, operational, technology and compliance risks associated with managing an alternative asset investment firm. The BFE Team uses a collaborative and consultative approach to its pre-investment and ongoing diligence efforts, developing strong partnerships with key professionals at each underlying hedge fund, including the COO, CFO, General Counsel, Compliance Officer and Marketing and Investor Relations personnel. BFE works closely with investment research and other functional teams across BAAM throughout the diligence process to monitor the ever-changing industry landscape. Responsibilities: * Meet with senior level management at BAAMs active and prospective hedge fund investments to perform operational due diligence. Meetings cover hedge fund managers of various size, institutionalization, investment strategy and geographical location. Discussion topics include all areas of business and operations to assess the strength of the organization and its ability to mitigate operational risk. * Monitor a sub-set of hedge fund managers on a continual basis. Establish and carry out due diligence plans to maintain ongoing oversight. * Document due diligence meetings and calls conducted and present findings to the Portfolio Management Team and Senior Management. * Monitor and research industry and regulatory developments. As needed, produce materials for internal and external distribution * Analyze hedge fund manager materials including marketing presentations, investor communications, regulatory filings, and audited financial statements, among other items. * Assist team members and Senior Management on special projects. * Perform due diligence on administrators and other service providers that support BAAMs hedge fund managers. * Meet with prime brokers and other industry participants. * Respond to client requests and inquiries. As needed, discuss industry and manager-specific topics directly with clients. * Attend industry seminars to understand new developments. * As needed, develop and conduct internal training sessions on industry topics. Qualifications: * Candidates should have 1-3 years of experience * Preferred prior work experience includes a traditional or alternative asset management firm in a financial, operational or compliance role or experience at a public accounting firm, hedge fund administrator, compliance consultant or prime broker * Knowledge of hedge fund structures, terms, operations, accounting, trade flow and compliance * Candidates should possess strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills * Exceptional leadership capabilities and organization skills * A strong work ethic, self-motivation and proactivity * Team oriented * Candidate should be willing to travel, both domestically and internationally.
