  • Responsibilities

    We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious student to join our R&D team for summer 2025! As the Carbohydrate Ingredient Development Intern, you will support progression of a well-defined research project related to preparation and characterization of a unique, novel starch-based ingredient. You will have the opportunity characterizing the prototype ingredients for their functionality/utility in both food and non-food applications. This work will also give you the opportunity to receive hands-on experience in using novel processing equipment.

    Your role will be:

    • Operating laboratory equipment and conducting experiments safely following SOPs
    • Communicating effectively and efficiently with the supervisor and team members and seeking support as needed and appropriate
    • Maintaining a clean, safe work environment; following guidelines for good housekeeping and safety
    • Collecting and compiling relevant background information (literature, patents, etc.) relevant to the project and summarizing the outcomes in appropriate formats
    • Be a good team player: Working well with others in laboratory, effectively communicating with colleagues and cross-functional team members
    • Performing laboratory experiments, collect and analyze data, and interpret results to make scientifically rational conclusions
    • Presenting project status updates, and outcomes to the team and key partners
    • Recording data in the Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and other archiving databases as appropriate; effectively communicating results to project teams and stakeholders
    • Presenting research findings to management with project outcomes and recommendations prior to the completion of internship period (allowing sufficient time to reviews and revisions for the reports and presentations)

    Your profile needs these qualifications:

    • Progress towards either Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Chemistry with laboratory research experience
    • Ability to work safely in a shared laboratory environment
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written technical communication skills, e.g. Preparing presentations and writing technical data/reports
    • Working knowledge of basic computer software applications such as MS Office Suite and other, common scientific software
    • Reliable transportation required to get to and from facility each work day or the week

    • Creativity and scientific curiosity: Desire to learn new technologies, concepts, and be creative in research

    To be eligible for consideration, candidates must:

    • Currently possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. Ingredion does not intend to sponsor work visas with respect to this position nor to provide this position as OPT or CPT.
    • Be a currently enrolled student in either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program. If currently enrolled in an undergrad status, must be a senior.
