  • Responsibilities

    The Global R&D - Analytical Measurement and Texture Science summer 2025 intern will be responsible for executing laboratory experiments and performing data analysis to optimize and update existing quality methods. The intern will utilize chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques for method development and validation.

    During your internship, you will be assigned a project aligned with Ingredion’s company strategy and will be essential in building knowledge to assist in product development. You will learn how Ingredion’s R&D organization innovates, from the starting material, through conversion to a food ingredient, and ultimately to application in a formulated food system. You will learn how to characterize the chemistry and physical properties of a food ingredient using cutting-edge analytical instrumentation and how to relate that chemistry to key functional properties utilizing statistical analysis. You will be given the opportunity to work closely with Ingredion’s analytical team as well as other members of our R&D organization. Upon completion of the summer, you will present to a multi-level cross-functional team.

    As the R&D Intern, Analytical Characterization and Texture Science, your responsibilities will include:

    • Operating laboratory equipment safely and with little direct supervision to support project needs
    • Performing laboratory experiments, conducting data analysis and interpreting results to make recommendations to project team
    • Maintaining a clean, safe work environment; following guidelines for good housekeeping and safety
    • Conducting searches on current technology and summarizing in appropriate reports
    • Presenting project status, updates, and outcomes to team and key partners
    • Working well with others in laboratory; effectively communicating with colleagues, project teams, including cross-functional team members, and key partners
    • Recording data in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and other archiving databases as appropriate
    • Presenting research findings to management with recommendations for future New Product Development or Applied Research projects at completion of internship period

    Qualified candidates will need to have:

    • Progress towards a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related field with laboratory research experience
    • Experience with safe work practices in a laboratory environment
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written technical communication skills, e.g. making presentations and writing technical data/reports
    • Working knowledge of basic computer software applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

    To be eligible for consideration, candidates must:

    • Currently possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. Ingredion does not intend to sponsor work visas with respect to this position or to provide this position as OPT or CPT.
    • Be a currently enrolled student in a Bachelor’s degree program. If currently enrolled in an undergrad status, must have completed at least two years of coursework with status as a sophomore, junior or non-graduating senior.
