    Job Description

    The Assistant City Energy Manager reports to the City Energy Manager within the Office of Sustainability’s Division of Energy and Climate Solutions and manages all tasks related to energy and utility management for a subset of the City’s energy portfolio. This position works closely with departments and collaborates with members of the Office of Sustainability and the Philadelphia Energy Authority. This position will manage consultants and contracts in support of energy procurement and analytics.

    Essential Functions

    • Collaborate with other members of the Municipal Energy Unit to manage a subset of the City’s energy portfolio (approx. 300 buildings)
    • For this subset of buildings, manage the energy management database, including working closely with staff to upload, audit and reconcile bills, problem solve, conduct general upkeep of data, manage users, provide user training, and manage major changes to maintain data integrity of the accounts.
    • Collaborate with the City Energy Manager on the procurement of electricity, natural gas, steam, and vehicular fuel for this subset of the portfolio with goals of cleaning supply, providing budget stability, and minimizing costs.
    • Assist with developing and reporting on the utility budget.
    • Develop requests for proposals (RFPs) and manage associated contracts.
    • Assist in energy reporting, messaging about energy use, addressing energy use anomalies, and other tasks as required.
    • Provide regular reporting on utility expenditure and project summaries
    • Management of one staff person

    • Strong organizational and analytical skills
    • Ability to effectively develop presentations highlighting data for various audiences of internal stakeholders
    • Ability to manipulate, analyze, and organize large data sets
    • Comfortable and effective working both independently and on teams
    • Flexibility and adaptability
    • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
    • Familiarity with racial equity and environmental justice issues within the energy sector
    • Familiarity with renewable energy procurement and energy markets
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in energy management, finance or other relevant education or 4 years relevant experience
    • 3+ years of experience working in energy management (each year of relevant post-secondary education will be counted toward experience)
    • Experience with energy conservation programs and/or energy procurement for large portfolios

    Preferred:

    • Certified Energy Manager certification or achieving within 6 months of hire
    • LEED accreditation
    • Professional education in energy management, engineering, and/or environmental science
    • Experience with managing energy conservation programs
    • Familiarity with building commissioning, HVAC controls, and/or building automation systems

    Salary Range: $72,000 - $85,000
