Arizona Ave, Chandler, Arizona Department: Public Works & Utilities Description Benefits Supplemental Questions The City of Chandler Streets Division is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the full-time position of STREETS SPECIALIST - CDLon the Storm Water Crew. The ideal applicant will have experience operating a vactor truck, cleaning storm water drainage structures, and some concrete finishing experience related to constructing and installing, storm water type structures such as catch basins, scuppers, spillways, manholes and headwalls. Work Location:975 E. Armstrong Way, Bldg. C Work Crew & Work Hours: Storm Water Crew - Monday - Thursday 5 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Classification Summary: The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform maintenance and repair work on City streets, right-of-ways, alleys, medians, storm water drainage systems, and retention basins including operating medium to heavy equipment. The Streets Specialist class is distinguished from the Senior Streets Specialist by the Senior Specialist's degree of skill required to operate more complex equipment on a more frequent regular basis. An employee in this class may have a rotational assignment within the Streets Division or be assigned to other maintenance duties in the City's Public Works Department. Essential Functions: Essential Functions are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills. They are intended to be accurate summaries of what the job classification involves and what is required to perform it. Employees are responsible for all other duties as assigned. Performs scheduled maintenance, repair, and service work on City streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, storm water drainage systems, and retention basins; Operates construction equipment including, but not limited to, dump truck, trailer, backhoe, front-end loader, street sweeping equipment, water truck, and tractors and associated attachments; Hauls, transports, loads and/or unloads various material and equipment associated with assigned projects; Assists in asphalt repair and replacement; dumps, rakes, spreads, and rolls/compacts asphalt; patching, crack sealing; applies cold mix to potholes; patches and repairs potholes in road surfaces; applies sealant to road cracks; Performs concrete repair and replacement; including setting forms, and finishing sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and gutters; Performs weed and vegetation control; Maintains storm water drainage by cleaning catch basins, scuppers, trash racks, and other storm water structures to prevent localized flooding; Removes debris and other safety hazards from streets, curbs, storm drains, alleys and adjacent public areas; Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; May respond to emergency situations as needed involving, accidents, roadway spills, debris, or other situations; assists with traffic when necessary; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures; Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activities, conditions and faulty equipment. Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City's Safety Handbook. Other Duties and Responsibilities Assists motorists broken down or blocking traffic lanes by providing traffic control including re-directing traffic or placing traffic barricades, safety cones, markers or signs to alert employees/citizens of work areas or other potential hazardous until the hazard is abated; Essential Physical Abilities: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and alarm and warning systems, including backup alarms; Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and work orders; Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of power and hand tools and to make adjustments to equipment; Sufficient strength to lift and carry objects up to 100 pounds for varying distances; Sufficient personal mobility, stamina, flexibility, and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and other physical exertions in an outdoor environment, frequently in high temperatures. Sufficient ability to endure prolonged exposure to arid desert conditions, i.e. prolonged sun and heat exposure during summer months. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalency; and One (1) year experience as a Street Maintenance Worker or two (2) years experience in street maintenance or civil construction; and Valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License Class A with tank endorsement at time of application or promotion; and Maricopa County Dust Control Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion date; and Hazwoper 40 hour Certification for some positions within one (1) year of hire or promotion date; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Desirable Qualifications: Recent experience with Storm Water maintenance and repair; Concrete finishing experience; *Applicants will be required to take a "Skills Test" as part of the selection process. The position available is a regular full-time position and is subject to a six (6) month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available. The City of Chandler will conduct a DOT pre-employment drug/alcohol test and a MVRRS (Motor Vehicle Record Request System) check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
