Conduct confidential interviews and investigations of patients diagnosed with or suspected of having communicable diseases. Perform venipuncture or skin tests as needed. Deliver medication as ordered by physicians, observes patients taking medication and documents results. Perform field investigations to locate patients who have or are suspected of having a communicable disease and motivates them to seek appropriate treatment and follow-up. Compile findings for review by others while adhering to strictly established data collection procedures with attention to detail. Performs review of data collected for quality assurance purposes. Review medical records and laboratory reports to obtain communicable disease diagnosis and treatment with appropriate follow-up. Participate in department wide initiatives to promote public health. This includes participation in various collaborative department community outreach projects with the goal to promote public health and prevent the spread of communicable diseases Coordinate registration and triage activities. Adheres to HIPAA standards. Assists in maintaining patient flow, documentation in patient health record, and maintains departmental, local, state, and federal data entry requirements WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve infrequent exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS A high school diploma or a GED is required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two (2) years of experience in the public contact in the social service or public health field or in a high-volume customer service environment are required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS A valid driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2). PREFERENCES Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. Work evenings and weekends GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED None - However, the Department may administer a skills assessment test.
