Arizona Ave, Chandler, Arizona Department: Community Services Description Benefits Supplemental Questions The City of Chandler Recreation Division is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the part-time temporary position of TEMP RECREATION LEADER II. This is a "Lead" role for our Building Blocks Program; the ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills, be mature, yet able to relate to children while maintaining an authoritative role. Location: Tumbleweed Recreation Center, 745 E. Germann Rd. Chandler, AZ 85286 Work Hours:TRC M/W/F or Tu/Th 8:45 A.M. - 2:15 P.M. approximately 12 - 18 hours per week * Hours may vary depending on division needs Classification Summary: The primary function of an employee in this class is to plan and supervise organized recreation activities at an assigned playground, park, recreation center, or museum following general instructions from a supervisor. An employee in this class may be assigned to other duties in the City's Parks and Recreation Division. Essential Functions (non-exhaustive): Conducts a general program of recreation at an assigned playground, school, activity center, senior center, or museum; Leads programs for elementary school students; Uses curriculum and resources provided to assemble program content; Organizes and directs hobby, adult, youth, and children's groups; Supervises a variety of competitive and non-competitive games, stunts, contests, and instructional and classroom activities; Supervises and directs Recreation Leader I and Recreation Aide employees assigned to assist; Officiates at sports contests and may prepare the playing field and instruct participants; Issues and receives recreation equipment such as balls, bats, gloves, nets, and horseshoes; Accepts and processes reservations and registrations for individuals, groups, and facilities; Interacts with students, teachers, chaperones, volunteers and other staff; Organizes and supervises field trips; Maintains attendance and activity records, score cards, and team standings; Maintains accident, incident, and emergency reports; Makes periodic written and oral reports, including budget updates and projections; Assists with station set-up and clean-up before and after each program; May render first aid; Maintains order during activities and enforces rules and regulations; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures; Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City's Safety Handbook. Essential Physical Abilities: Sufficient clarity of hearing and speech, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern and dispense verbal instructions by groups of 20 or more people; Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and discern, supervise, and react to physical activities; Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate sports and related office equipment; Sufficient body flexibility, agility, and stamina to supervise and participate in outdoor and indoor physical, recreational and sports activities, and to stand/walk for extended periods of time; Sufficient ability to endure prolonged exposure to arid desert conditions, i.e. prolonged sun and heat exposure during summer months. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalency; and One (1) year of experience in a recreation environment; and Valid Arizona Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; and First Aid and CPR/AED certifications may be required depending on assignment; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Desirable Qualifications: Recent experience working with preschool children in a recreation environment; Experience supervising other staff; Recent customer service experience The position available is a part-time / temporary position and will serve at the discretion of the department head. The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and a MVRRS (Motor Vehicle Record Request System) check as a condition of employment.
