    Meter Reader II Salary $14.00 Hourly Location GA, GA Job Type Full-time Department Customer Care Job Number 5503 Closing 11/26/2018 5:00 PM Eastern Job Summary : This position is responsible for revenue protection activities associated with meter operations. This position is also responsible for accurately reading and re-reading residential and commercial electric and water meters when needed. Major Duties Major Duties: · Reads electric and water utility meters for commercial and residential customers · Investigates theft of service on utility accounts · Investigates consumption on inactive accounts · Maintains records on standard forms to ensure proper billing when reading meters · Assists with uploading and downloading computerized meter reading devices to the computer · Checks for dysfunctional meters and reports any defects to supervisor · Runs re-checks on meters in question · Performs final reading for customers requesting disconnection; turns electric and water services on for new customers · Disconnects electric and water services to delinquent customers · Assists in locating and uncovering lost meters · May replace meter boxes, lids and cut-offs · Performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications : High School diploma or equivalent supplemented with two (2) to three (3) years work experience plus possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge Required by the Position Knowledge Required by the Position: · Knowledge of water and electric meter functions · Knowledge of meter reading practices and procedures · Knowledge of electrical safety regulations · Knowledge of the City electric and water systems · Knowledge of the location of City streets and meters Skills Required by the Position: · Skill in operating a hand-held meter-reading unit · Skill in critical analysis and critical thinking · Skill in oral and written communication · Skill in dealing with the general public Abilities Required by the Position: · Ability to identify tampering on account · Ability to be detail oriented · Ability to observe meter activity accurately and record readings legibly · Ability to supervise the activities of Meter Readers if needed · Ability to make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately Supervisory Controls : Employees in this position follow designated routes, receive specific work instructions and investigate unusual activity on accounts. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Meter Lead. Guidelines: Guidelines include the National Electrical Code, City codes, policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. Complexity: This position consists of related meter reading and customer service tasks and requires critical analysis and the ability to manage detail-oriented tasks to protect city from loss revenue related to theft of utility services. Scope and Effect : The purpose of this position is to investigate suspicious activity on utility accounts and assist with the reading of utility meters. Successful performance helps ensure that appropriate utility revenues are collected and utility consumption is accurately tracked. Personal Contacts : Contacts are typically with co-workers and the general public. Purpose of Contacts : Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services. Physical Demands : The work is typically performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee is required to frequently lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of color.
