Job Description Serves in a para-police capacity, assists sworn officers
with various duties, respond to traffic accidents and parking
violations, and other non-emergency calls for assistance. Develops and
maintains positive relationships with neighborhood organizations and
residents in an effort to increase community-police cooperation and to
promote crime prevention and safety theories and practices that can be
implemented in communities to deter criminal activity. Work is performed
in accordance with standard departmental procedures and under general
supervision, and involves some exercise of independent judgment and
initiative. Essential Functions 100% - The list of essential functions,
as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks
performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive
of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function
does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if
such duties are a logical assignment to the position. * Assists sworn
officers with various duties as assigned. * Responds to non-emergency
calls for assistance. * Enforces traffic and parking ordinances;
responds to minor traffic accidents.Issues citations and tickets as
appropriate. * Assists in preparing cases for court; provides court
testimony as required. * Assists with criminal investigations division
follow-ups as requested. * Performs various public service duties,
including directing traffic on streets, roadways, intersections, school
crossings, and during special events. * Supervise School Crossing Guards
- Review potential violations for the City of Ocoee Intersection Safety
Program to include testifying in a court of law. * Provides police
escort, assists stranded motorists, provides crowd control at City
events. Etc. * Assist with criminal history research and arrest
fingerprint cards. * Ability to read a variety of law books, ordinances,
maps, policy and procedure manuals, warrants, criminal records. *
Ability to prepare reports, records, tickets, etc. with proper format,
punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. *
Processes and inputs data accurately into the FCIC/NCIC terminal. *
Receives and responds to citizen inquiries, complaints and requests for
assistance; refers public to persons or agencies which can provide
further assistance as required. * Ability to understand and follow oral
and written instructions. * Process basic crime scenes for fingerprints
and collection of evidence. * Ability to work and maintain a
professional relationship with Community Groups and Neighborhood Watch.
- Performs filing and paperwork retention. * Performs related duties as
directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to
the position. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED
equivalent and two (2) years of general office, communication, or
records management experience. Possess an acceptable Florida Drivers
License. Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of employment
FCIC/NCIC certification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities KSA's: -
Ability to remain calm and react quickly in emergencies. Ability to
conduct motor vehicle accident investigations with minimal supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
employees and the general public. Knowledge of basic life saving
techniques (CPR). Physical and Environmental Requirements PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines
and equipment including automobile, office equipment, radio, telephone
etc. Must be able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally
and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift,
carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in
excess of those for sedentary work, must be able to remain on feet for
periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb,
balance, walk, run. Must be physically fit. Must be able to restrain,
lift and/or carry adults of varying weights. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Some tasks are performed with potential for intermittent exposure to
disagreeable elements including, but not limited to, heat, humidity,
