JOB ANNOUNCEMENT City of Treasure Island, Florida TITLE OF POSITION: BRIDGE TENDER Part Time (approximately 24 hrs per week) VACANCY DATE: Immediate SALARY: $10.93/hour JOB TITLE: BRIDGE TENDER GRADE: 2 DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS SALARY: $10.93 - $16.00/hour GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a shift work position responsible for the operation of the drawbridge to include routine and light manual labor. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Lead Bridge Tender. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs light maintenance and cleaning tasks about the bridge area. 2. Keeps station in bridge house when so assigned. 3. Watches for approaching water traffic and raises and lowers drawbridge in accord with established procedures. 4. Maintain bridge log of openings. 5. Responsible for calling supervisor's attention to need for assistance. 6. Performs related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in solving problems through the application of knowledge of the Citys bascule bridge. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public. - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing and effectively by radio in a courteous and tactful manner. - Must be able to work all three shifts including weekends and holidays. - Ability to learn the rules and regulations controlling the operation of the drawbridges crossing navigable waters. - Ability to learn the operation of City's power driven drawbridge. - Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. - Ability to comply with work schedules and maintain satisfactory attendance. - Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Bridge Tender Page 2 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or successful completion of a GED. Two (2) years experience dealing with the public. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.) LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Valid Florida Driver's License. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: - Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections) - Acceptable hearing (with or without aid) - Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. - Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. - Ability to lift 20 pounds. - Ability to walk and climb stairs to bridge station. - Ability to descend and climb stairs to inspect bridge equipment when necessary. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: - Work is performed primarily in an office environment with moderate noise levels. The employee in this class is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
