About The Position Works in the second busiest branch library, interacting with a variety of patrons including adults, preschool children and their caregivers and students from elementary school through college. Position includes working service desks, answering patron questions and recommending resources, offering programming to youth of all ages, including early literacy programming and outreach visits, mentoring volunteers, handling cash, merchandising and participating in Library System events. Offers customer service, readers advisory to library patrons of all ages and assists patrons using the library's downloadable resources and databases. Scheduled hours will include evenings and weekends. Please note: Due to this position being part-time, the classification is unclassified, meaning it is at-will and serves at the discretion of the City. This position will require some evening and weekend shifts, and is only open to current City of Scottsdale employees. At this time, we currently have a vacancy at the Mustang Library, located at 10101 N 90th Street, Scottsdale AZ, 85258. Selection Process Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include a panel interview and an assessment exercise. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include: * Fingerprinting * Criminal Background screening for the past 7 years MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * A Bachelor's degree or equivalent. * Six months of library or related experience. * An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Provide and model exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority. * Establish, maintain, and foster positive, harmonious, professional, and effective working relationships. * Create and deliver exceptional programming and educational opportunities within the library, through community outreach, and virtually. * Demonstrate an understanding of early literacy principles as they relate to preschool and Knowing and Growing programming. * Communicate library policies and procedures, request compliance with Library Rules of Conduct, and serve as "In-Charge" person in the evenings, on weekends, and as assigned. * Perform daily duties in a manner consistent with the Library's mission, goals, and objectives. * Assist with administrative duties to support work unit which may include scheduling, statistics, records and customer account maintenance, materials handling, collection management, and data entry. * Work at all public service points to include Customer Service Desk where payments are processed. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Concentrate on and complete tasks in the presence of distractions. * Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, credit card machine, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
