    Police Clerk City of Vallejo, CA - Vallejo, CA $41,527 - $50,476 a year Description The City of Vallejo Police Department has two full-time vacancies for the Police Clerk positions. The purpose of this recruitment is to establish a Register of Eligibles list to fill the current and any future vacancies over the next year. This position will perform a wide variety of technical and clerical duties in support of the Police Department including to initiate, process, and maintain documents, correspondence and statistics; and to provide information and assistance to the public. The successful candidate will possess the following highly desirable attributes: Strong computer and technical skills; detail oriented; astute; proactive; responsive; timely; reliable; accurate; excellent oral and written communication to internal and external constituents; collaborative approach; solution oriented; trustworthy and ethical. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED * Receives general supervision from the Police Records Supervisor. Examples of Duties Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Compile, type, record and file a wide variety of police records, reports and materials including memoranda, letters, reports, complaints, declarations, booking information, restraining orders, fingerprint cards, warrants, citations, and crime and traffic reports. * Maintain the Department's warrant system including notification, tracking and documentation on attempts to serve; access information from the computerized warrant system. * Sort, file, copy and distribute crime reports, traffic reports, citations, petitions, and other materials to appropriate personnel. * Assist Department personnel and the public in person and by phone including retrieving information and files, mailing out requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations, and providing general information regarding Department policies, procedures and regulations. * Operate a computer programs; enter and retrieve data on the CLETS system; assist officers in need of information from the CLETS system; type, enter, modify and retrieve a wide variety of police reports and records, memoranda, teletype messages, letters and other material. * Maintain a variety of police records filing systems including the Department's traffic accident files. * Receive lost and stolen property; contact the owner; release impounded and recovered vehicles.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: * English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. * Business letter writing and report preparation. * Principles and procedures of record keeping. * Modern office methods, practices, procedures and computer programs. Ability to: * Learn the organization, procedures and operating details of a law enforcement agency. * Learn to perform a full range of specialized public safety technical and clerical work under minimal supervision. * Learn, correctly interpret and apply the laws, codes, policies and procedures related to the processing of law enforcement documents. * Work courteously with the general public on the telephone or in person. * Maintain accurate records and files for soft and hard copies. * Make arithmetical calculations quickly and accurately. * Operate a variety of office equipment including computer programs. * Type at speed necessary for adequate job performance. * Understand and carry out oral and written directions. * Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally in writing and by electronic media. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Experience and Training: Experience: * One year of clerical work experience requiring public contact and the interpretation of rules and regulations. Training: * A high school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized clerical training. Step 2: Applicant Screening Application packets containing all required materials will receive an overall screening assessment. Applicants who are found to be the best qualified will move forward in the process. The City will close this recruitment on June 15, 2018, or upon receipt of the first 150 applications, whichever occurs first. The City reserves the right to reopen the application period to obtain a qualified pool of candidates to move forward to the examination and assessment process. Pool of Candidates: The City reserves the right to limit the number of candidates to those determined to be the best qualified based upon all requested application materials, including training and experience, cover letter, current resume, and supplemental questions. Step 3: Examination The examination process consists of a written examination weighted at 100%. Candidates must achieve a score of 70% or higher in order to be placed on the Register of Eligibles. The written examination is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Candidates deemed best qualified will receive an invitation to the written examination during week of June 18, 2018, the invitation will include the date, time and location of the scheduled exam. Step 4: Department Interview Names of candidates who qualify for placement on the Register of Eligibles list will be forwarded to the hiring department for additional assessment of qualifications. This may include, but not be limited to, a hiring interview. The hiring department reserves the right to determine the number of candidates referred for hiring consideration. Additional steps in the Vallejo Police Department pre-employment selection process includes, but may not be limited to, the following: * Oral Panel Interview; * Complete a Personal History Statement (PHS) from the California Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST). Candidate will be given this form from the Police Department, if candidate passes oral panel interview; * Background investigation by POST certified background investigator (including, but not limited to, criminal history, Department of Motor Vehicles(DMV) driving history, credit check, and fingerprint check, previous/current employment references, and personal references); * Polygraph examination; * Final hiring interview; * Pre-employment medical examination; * Psychological examination. Step 5: Final Selection The department holding the current vacancy will conduct all final interviews and make the final candidate selection.
