    Job Description

    Under general supervision of the Child Care Health Program (CCHP) Nurse Manager and the Office of Childhood (OCH) Hearing Audiometrist, the 9910 Public Service Trainee performs the following duties:

    • Train and participate in the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of CCHP OCH’s Early Childhood Audiometric Screening and School Aged Screening programs.
    • Assist with coordinating and scheduling hearing screening in childcare settings for children 0-5yrs and in K-12 settings for school aged children.
    • Train in hearing screening procedures by the Certified School Audiometrist, including pure tone (PT) “Play Audiometry” and Otoacoustic (OAE) methods, to assist in all phases of hearing assessments, including: prepping supplies and equipment for screening, leading educational “circle times” for children, and collecting hearing screening results for community assessments and quality improvement.
    • Learns care coordination basics and motivational interviewing strategies to assist with hearing referrals and case management calls to educate parents on the importance of hearing for healthy child development and to help parents make needed hearing appointments for their children.
    • Documents hearing screening results using electronic health records, data spreadsheets, and online survey tools, including the Epic Electronic Health Record. Includes accurate, complete & timely data entry of client demographic data, health screening data, and consent status directly into the MCAH Oracle database, Epic, or other software application in coordination with other CCHP team members.
    • Access MCAH Oracle, Epic, or other software application to check client’s consent status, Medi-Cal status, and/or additional information
    • Adhere to operational procedures for confidential handling, storing and destruction of documents, including protected health information
    • Train in culturally sensitive and appropriate literacy level for target audience to translate educational

    The 9910 Public Service Trainee also performs other related duties as assigned.

    _ Minimum Qualification (Required):_
    Completion of 30 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university.

    NOTE: Some physical strength is required in lifting and carrying supplies and equipment.

    Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

    Desirable Qualification: The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

    • Completion of one (1) Child Development (or Child Development-related) or Audiometry, or Audiology, course from an accredited college or university
    • Possession of a Bachelors degree with a concentration in Audiology, or a closely related field.
    • Experience working with underserved populations, especially children.
    • Ability to prioritize, multitask and work independently and part of a team.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Experienced in the use of MS Office
    • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Chinese
