    Job Description

    Under general supervision, cleans and maintains the merchant corridors under the Corridor Ambassador Program.

    EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Clean curb catch basins and areas between cars.
    • Sweep tree basins and remove any debris.
    • Fill bags with trash, leave enough room so you can tie the bag, and leave in common pick up area.
    • Report any deficiencies that are beyond your tool or your capability.
    • Ambassadors are responsible for removing graffiti and tags and scraping off stickers on public properties. This includes but is not limited to: all street poles, garbage cans, utility boxes, benches, mailboxes, fire hydrants (but not the top), and parking meter poles.
    • Sweeping and debris removal from public areas including sidewalks, curbside, plazas, stairways, building frontages, and other areas of public path of travel.
    • Remove illegal posting as needed on assigned route.
    • Weeding as needed from sidewalks, tree basins, and gutters. 
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    SELECTION PROCEDURES: The selection process will include an evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Department will move forward in the recruitment process. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through all of the steps in the selection procedure.

    DRUG TESTING REQUIREMENT: Applicants for positions in this classification who are not currently employed by the City and County of San Francisco in a safety-sensitive position represented by the Laborers, Local 261, are required to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. All employees in this classification may also be subject to drug and alcohol testing upon reasonable suspicion or after a work related accident. Applicants with a positive result from a pre-employment drug test will be restricted from hire in safety-sensitive positions for six months after the date of the positive test.

    MEDICAL EXAMINATION: Prior to appointment, candidates must successfully pass a medical examination to determine their ability to perform the essential functions and/or meet physical requirements.
