DEPARTMENT INFORMATION The position is responsible for assisting court patrons through the court process and responsible for developing outreach programs with partnering agencies. The Community Relations Coordinator works closely with other municipalities, district courts, penal institutions to address outstanding issues in Oklahoma City Municipal Court. This position will occasionally work outside of the regular work schedule due to the demands of the court schedule/outreach programs. JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS This position is located in the Department of Municipal Courts with the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The position is primary responsible for coordinating and performing public education or community outreach in support of various departmental programs and activities. The employee is also responsible for developing and/or generating program ideas, monitoring the quality and effectiveness of existing programs and activities, and recommending and implementing program changes. Essential job functions include: planning, organizing and coordinating public outreach in support of departmental programs and activities, developing public education programs designed to generate public or community interest and/or support; and traveling to present these public education programs to citizens. The Community Relations Coordinator may also be responsible for preparing and maintaining divisional records and reports, generating statistical data, evaluating the effectiveness of existing communications programs and materials, planning and organizing events, and serving on and traveling to various task forces and committees. The position requires well-developed communication skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees at all levels of the organization, outside agencies, public/private groups, and the general public. The employee works within established policy and divisional guidelines and independently plans and implements new projects and activities. Work products are reviewed for overall effectiveness, program accomplishments and soundness of judgment. VETERANS PREFERENCE Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Armed Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City shall receive five (5) points added to the passing score on an initial selection process. Job Requirements * Knowledge of principles and practices of public education and community outreach. * Skill in speaking effectively before groups. * Skill in communicating verbally and in writing using tact and diplomacy. * Skill in developing and coordinating community relations programs and activities. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. * Ability to accurately develop and maintain records and statistical data. * Ability to evaluate program quality, effectiveness, and initiate appropriate changes. * Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects and activities. * Possession of a valid driver license. DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES * Bachelor Degree in criminal justice, criminology, counseling, psychology, sociology or a job related field of study from an accredited college or university. * Minimum two (2) years work experience in casework, counseling, community, or group work in a social service community, corrections, or juvenile/adult agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons. * Extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system and case management skills. * Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, departments, outside agencies, and the general public. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements WORKING CONDITIONS * Primarily inside in a climate-controlled environment. * Outside occasionally; exposed to heat, cold, humidity, rain, etc. * Occasional to frequent local travel. * Occasionally required to work beyond normally scheduled work hours. NOTE: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Near vision enough to read written communications. * Finger dexterity enough to operate a computer keyboard. * Speech and hearing enough to communicate in person and over the telephone. * Visual color discrimination enough to distinguish color differences or matches. * Strength enough to lift, pull, push, or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs., such as audio or video equipment, etc. Other Notes NOTE: City employees are required to receive pay electronically, either via direct deposit or pay card.
