    SOLID WASTE ROUTE INSPECTOR Salary $15.85 Hourly Location 78228, TX Job Type 4A Full-Time Department Solid Waste Management Job Number 2018-00907 Closing 5/9/2018 11:59 PM Central * Description * Benefits * Questions Job Summary Under general supervision, is responsible for performing operational investigations, administrative and technical work securing data necessary to verify appropriate customer billing categories, and ensures all customer information is submitted for billing of services rendered. Exercises no supervision. Essential Job Functions * Procures customer billing reports from department's fiscal section. * Verifies appropriate billing categories. * Performs recycling/organics field container audits. * Performs field audits. * Interacts with internal and external customers. * Authorizes and submits account changes to fiscal section for proper billing. * Monitors and notates quality of service delivery in contracted areas. * Conducts time and motion studies on field crews for route evaluations. * Researches data which may affect billing for services rendered. * Acts as field point of contact for citizens and assists in resolving customer billing issues. * Inputs and analyzes data from a computer database. * Maintains records and maps. * Monitors route production benchmarks. * Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements * High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). * Two (2) years of general office, administrative, customer service, or billing experience. * This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish. * Knowledge of City of San Antonio recycling, organics, brush, and bulky collection programs. * Ability and willingness to work outdoors (i.e. container delivery, outreach, and events). * Willing to work various work shifts depending on program needs and events. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. * Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 40 pounds; visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment and in a vehicle with frequent visits to outdoor sites and exposure to temperature extremes. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Knowledge of basic billing systems. * Knowledge of customer relations practices. * Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs. * Ability to read a map and navigate through the city. * Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public. * Ability to research, analyze, and compile data. * Ability to perform field audits for customer billing and to perform quarterly house counts for billing accuracy. * Ability to explain program rules to the general public. * Ability to resolve service issues by clarifying the resident's complaint; determining the cause of the problem; selecting and explaining the best solution to solving the problem; expediting correction or adjustment; and following up to ensure resolution.
