Psychology Technician GS 6 - Hampton, VA - Overview Summary Introduction: The incumbent performs duties, and assists in the day-to-day operation in the assigned clinical areas. The incumbent schedules, receives, and prepares patients for psychological and neuropsychological assessment. The incumbent confers with the responsible psychologist to determine what assessment instruments and computerized procedures are appropriate. The incumbent then administers the instruments or therapy procedure individually or in a group setting and gives the scored tests or treatment notes with the relevant behavioral observations to the responsible psychologist. In the case of routine screening test of mental status, intelligence and general cognitive functioning, the incumbent interprets the test results and submits a written interpretive report for the approval of the responsible psychologist. In order to obtain good results, the incumbent creates an atmosphere to motivate patients and at the same time allay any concerns patients may have. The incumbent's position requires some understanding of psychological knowledge and techniques as well as maturity and tact during interactions with patients, physicians, nurses and ward clerks. In addition, the incumbent has close working relationships with personnel throughout the Medical Center and in the Mental Health Service Line. Experience. GS-6/7/8 - One year of technical work under the direction of a professional psychologist in a program of professional services, training or research. One full year of graduate study in psychology in an accredited college or university may be substituted for 1 year of experience and meets in full the requirements at the GS-7 level.
