Duties Help Duties Summary Airway Transportation Systems Specialists
(ATSS) perform in the capacity of highly specialized electronics
technicians. ATSS personnel install, evaluate, maintain, modify and
certify facilities, services and equipment that support the National
Airspace System (NAS). Learn more about this agency Responsibilities The
primary duties of an ATSS are linked to maintaining the safe and
efficient operating capacity of the vast and complex network of
electronics systems required for the world's largest air traffic control
and navigation system. They are also responsible for various auxiliary
duties that contribute to providing reliable and safe FAA services to
the flying public. This involves work with radar, communications,
automation, and navigational aid equipment, as well as, various
environmental support facilities and equipment. ATSS' will be required
to possess knowledge in and perform some or all of the following duties:
Well qualified applicants will document extensive knowledge and skill in
the operation, repair, installation, analysis, maintenance,
troubleshooting, modification, and certification on all or some of the
following ground-based systems such as: * Radar: Airport Surveillance
Radar, Air Route Surveillance Radar, Air Traffic Control Beacon
Indicator, Airport Surface Detection Equipment and Terminal Doppler
Weather Radar, Multilateration, IFF Qualified applicants must document 1
year of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the next
lower level, that demonstrates an extensive knowledge of basic
electricity and electronic theory; aptitude for solving mathematical
problems (algebra, trigonometry); knowledge and ability to use tools,
materials, and various types of specialized test equipment for the
maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing of: * Radar: fire control,
radar peripheral equipment ( e.g. Bright Radar Indicator Tower
Equipment) or electronic countermeasures. Applicants should include
examples of specialized experience in their Work History. ATSSs must be
able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position
without hazard to themselves or others. Due to the nature of the job,
usable vision (including color vision and near vision), hearing, and
speech may be required. ATSSs may be required to lift and/or carry
objects weighing up to 50 pounds; climb stairs/ladders and towers up to
100 foot; be able to bend or stoop for extended periods; work in diverse
environmental conditions (outside/extreme weather); work rotating
shifts, weekends and/or holidays; and possibly travel in the local area
up to 80% of the time. (Note: Newly hired ATSSs may spend a significant
amount of time attending formal training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma

demonstrates an extensive knowledge of basic electricity and electronic
theory; aptitude for solving mathematical problems (algebra,
trigonometry); knowledge and ability to use tools, materials, and
various types of specialized test equipment for the maintenance,
troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment/systems and
experience in the technology, system interrelationships, and management
of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation, and electronics
systems. Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in
their Work History. Equivalent combinations of education and experience
may be qualifying for this position. TO QUALIFY AT THE FV-G LEVEL BASED
ON EDUCATION: Applicants must document one of the following:- 1) Ph.D.
or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 2) 3 full years of progressively
higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR 3) LL.M.;
if related. Schools must be accredited by an accrediting institution
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If qualifying based on
education, applicants must submit a copy of the transcript which
includes the name of the institution, quarter or semester hours earned
and/or confer date. Valid Driver's License is required. Upon successful
completion of training and facility certifications, candidate can be
