The Pretrial Officer is responsible for supervising defendants' compliance with release conditions, providing services that minimize failures, and providing the courts with information to address noncompliance. Duties and Responsibilities: * Informs newly released defendants about rules and conditions of release. * Establishes the defendant's acceptance and understanding of his or her obligations. * Creates individualized supervision plans that help a defendant comply with release conditions. * Continually monitors the defendant's ability to comply. * Enforces conditions of release. * Initiates, verifies and monitors the services defendants receive from vendors. * Maintains accurate case notes documenting supervision activities and contacts. * Screens defendants to determine if they need support service referrals to facilitate compliance with release conditions or to address specific needs. * Administers screening tests to defendants to detect substance use. * Reviews drug test results, and electronic monitoring and ignition interlock reports to ascertain defendant activity and condition compliance. * Apprises court about violations and formulates recommendations for sanctions or alternatives to incarceration as requested. * Testifies in court. * Documents and maintains information the department needs to prepare monthly reports. * Responds to inquiries from defendants and the public about the pretrial process. * Collaborates with personnel in criminal justice and human services agencies, representatives of the legal community, and others to achieve department goals. * Performs all tasks accurately and thoroughly within demanding time frames. * Performs other related duties and works overtime as required. Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Counseling or other closely related subject area from an accredited university or college; and * One (1) year of full-time paid work experience interacting with the public, eliciting information. OR * Bachelor's degree in any other field of study from an accredited university or college; and * One (1) year of full-time paid work experience interacting with the public, eliciting information; plus * One (1) year of full-time paid work experience in a criminal justice setting; * or Two (2) years of volunteer experience in a criminal justice or social sciences setting. AND * Effective communication, interaction, and organizational skills. * Excellent documentation skills. * Ability to perform tasks in a fast paced environment. * Demonstrated tolerance for diverse populations. * A valid driver's license (Texas upon hire), available transportation and current auto liability insurance. Additional Requirements: * Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, all applicants are screened for the presence of illegal drugs. * All new employees are required to present evidence of a TB skin test prior to employment. * Copy of complete transcripts are required with the application. Environmental Requirements: * Continuous computer use. * Travel between office locations, shift and weekend assignments.
