Job Description
The IT Trainer plays a key role in advancing the Office of Innovation & Technology, enhancing business processes that align with the City’s strategic priorities for a future-ready, agile, digital experience.
As the IT Trainer for OIT, you will empower our organization with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive innovation and efficiency. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in both technology and instructional design to create engaging, impactful training programs. You will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of continuous learning, ensuring our IT employees stay aligned with industry trends and best practices. Your ability to connect with learners and translate technical concepts into accessible and applicable content will be key to helping our team thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions
In this role, you will be expected to perform the following functions:
• Training Development: Design and develop training materials, including presentations, manuals, and hands-on exercises tailored to various IT topics and skill levels.
• Instructional Delivery: Facilitate engaging training sessions, workshops, and seminars that cater to diverse learning styles and encourage active participation.
• Skill Gap Analysis: Work closely with OIT leaders to identify skills gaps and training needs, using assessments and feedback to inform program development.
• Evaluation and Feedback: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through participant feedback, assessments, and performance metrics, and make adjustments where necessary.
• Mentoring: Provide ongoing support and mentoring to OIT employees, to include one-on-one coaching and mentoring, guiding them in the application of new skills and best practices in their day-to-day work.
• Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update training materials and methodologies to reflect emerging technologies, industry standards, and organizational changes.
• Documentation: Maintain records of training activities and participant progress, reporting to management on training outcomes and recommendations.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-functional training opportunities and promote a holistic understanding of IT’s role in the organization.

Knowledge:
• Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of IT concepts, tools, and best practices in areas such as software development, IT infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
• Instructional Design: Familiarity with instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles.
• Training Technologies: Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning tools, and virtual training platforms.
Skills:
• Presentation Skills: Ability to deliver engaging and informative presentations that captivate and educate participants.
• Facilitation Skills: Expertise in guiding group discussions and activities to enhance learning and participation.
• Assessment and Evaluation: Proficient in designing assessments and evaluating training effectiveness through data analysis.
Abilities:
• Technical Aptitude: Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies and software applications.
• Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills to foster a positive learning environment and encourage open communication.
• Critical Thinking: Capacity to analyze complex information and provide clear, actionable insights.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Education, or a related field.
• Proven experience as an IT professional (e.g., system administration, software development, network management).
• Previous experience in instructional design or training delivery, preferably in an IT environment.
• Strong understanding of various IT concepts, tools, and technologies.
• Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt training styles to accommodate different learning preferences.
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning tools is a plus.
Additional Information
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000
