Maximus is seeking an experienced and dedicated Legal Counsel to support the Kansas Child Support Enforcement project. In this role, you will play a critical part in preparing and reviewing legal filings, representing clients in court, and advising private counsel on complex cases. With a strong focus on compliance and litigation management, you will be the go-to expert for legal guidance and strategy within the child support enforcement framework.
The position is full-time and remote, with travel to Kansas City, KS or Wichita, KS once per quarter. The ideal candidate will reside in Kansas or in Missouri cities such as Kansas City (within driving distance). An active Kansas State BAR Association license is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and sign legal filings and court documents.
- Attend and represent the client in assigned judicial hearings.
- Communicate and advise private counsel on cases.
- Communicate with project staff regarding legal questions, opinions, and interpretations.
- Act as an advisor on legal issues involving compliance.
- Coordinate with outside counsel for litigation and legal matters.
- Interpret applicable regulations and policies associated with case to determine recommendation.
- Ensure solutions are consistent with organizational objectives.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant professional experience required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.
Program Specific Requirements:
- Active Kansas State BAR license
- Must have a Juris Doctorate (JD) degree
- Experience with child support or family law, preferred
- Must be willing and able to travel to Kansas City, KS or Wichita, KS as needed

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
