Deputy Tax Collector Mecklenburg County 89 reviews - Mecklenburg County, NC POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for collecting property tax levies for assigned municipalities, special districts, and the county through the enforcement of applicable statutes as identified in the Revenue Laws of North Carolina. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Enforce payment of delinquent taxes, whether individual or business-related, by means of garnishments, levies, debt set-offs, seizures, consults with lien holders, payment arrangements, and field visits. Approve/deny payments on bills under legal status. * Research taxpayer accounts and bills for tax history pertaining to business property, personal property, business taxes and real estate. Regularly update case notes to document phone calls and office visits. * Provide timely and courteous customer service. * Establish documentation on each account as needed, flag cases appropriately in the system to ensure correct coding and proper collection activities. * Prepare and complete reports. * Receive and receipt payments collected in the field, adhering to the County and departmental money handling policies. * Perform quality assurance and/or testing on departmental mailings, information system enhancements, websites and other communication tools. * Achieves or surpasses all collection goals. MINIMUM QUALIFICIATIONS Experience: Two years of collection and/or accounting experience or experience in related field. Education: Associates Degree in a related field Equivalent Experience for Education Accepted? Yes Licenses and Certifications: May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Drivers License. Must obtain and maintain a valid Mecklenburg County Vehicle Operators Permit. Obtain Deputy Tax Collector Certification within three years.
