    Job Description

    Under supervision, the Morgue Attendant transfers remains of deceased persons to morgue and refrigerated compartments; prepares and releases bodies to morticians and authorized parties; keeps morgue and equipment in clean and orderly condition.

    The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Brings bodies of deceased persons from ward, and patient rooms to morgue and refrigerated compartments;
    • Wraps bodies in sheets and places in refrigerated compartment;
    • Checks storage box for proper temperature, anatomical position and proper identification of body
    • Prepares bodies for release to authorized parties after post-mortem examination by aspirating fluids and cleaning bodies according to facility procedures;
    • Cleans autopsy room;
    • Delivers soiled linen to laundry, returns clean linen to morgue and storage room, and performs disposal of chemical and biological waste.
    • Logs information of deceased patients into hospital morgue database
    • Prepares deceased individuals for family viewing

    The 2520 Morgue Attendant may perform other duties as assigned/required.

    Nature of Work: Involves considerable physical effort and manual dexterity with considerable exposure to disagreeable working conditions.

    Qualifications

    1. Education : Possession of an associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent courses with concentration in Biological Sciences and Anatomy from an accredited college or university; AND
    2. Experience: Six (6) months of experience conducting autopsies or surgical grossing in a hospital or medical examiner setting.

    Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

    One-year fulltime employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).

    Selection Procedures :

    Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ):
    Candidates will be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

    Assessment Component
    Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a Supplemental Questionnaire exam that is designed to measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities in job related areas which may include but not be limited to: Knowledge of the techniques involved in the handling and preparation of bodies of deceased persons; Knowledge of hospital methods and procedures; Knowledge of the care and use of equipment such as the gurney or ceiling lift; Ability and skill to follow written and oral instructions; Ability to prepare simple records; Skill to deal tactfully and courteously with morticians and members of the family of deceased persons; and/or Ability to handle remains of deceased persons.

    ** Supplemental Questionnaire Exam: (Weight: 100%) **
    Qualified candidates will be sent a Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) exam that must be completed and submitted by the set date.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score on the supplemental questionnaire exam in order to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

    Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

    Certification: The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of the List.

    The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 12 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
