The Molinari Juvenile Shelter is a short-term residential program for boys and girls ages 10 to 17 who are in crisis and need temporary placement. The Molinari Juvenile Shelter affords a structured, therapeutic environment where residents can begin to address their problems. The Shelter Home Worker acts as a counselor and leader to youth on all aspects of behavior management and daily living skills. In a typical busy day, the Shelter Home Worker will supervise youth in their hygiene, chores, mealtime, recreation, and educational activities. He will lead regular group meetings on topics such as anger management, job readiness skills and interpersonal communications. He will also be expected to participate in, and periodically lead, family partnership meetings that include youth, their families and representatives of outside agencies such as social services, attorneys, probation officers and schools. He will perform administrative functions such as processing admissions and discharges and maintain records, while always being prepared to solve problems "on the spot" and de-escalate crisis situations. The primary work schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, due to the nature of residential work, we are seeking a candidate who is flexible and can periodically work evening and/or weekend shifts. The candidate we seek must have knowledge and experience with implementing positive behavioral modification methods and be able to respond to conflict situations that may involve using physical restraint techniques (training provided.) Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related behavioral science and 1-2 years experience in a field related to human development; or completion of a two year certificate or Associate degree in behavioral sciences programs from a community college and/or a university and 3-5 years of experience which must have been with delinquent youth, preferably in an institutional or shelter home setting.
