  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    Under general supervision, investigates requests for public assistance in accordance with well defined and established legal provisions, policies and procedures in order to determine the eligibility and needs of applicants and recipients for public assistance and services; recommends assistance grants on basis of findings; provides other miscellaneous services; maintains various case records; and performs related duties as required.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    1. Provide Linkage to community supports, and remove barriers to these supports, assisting clients in resolving their problems that prevent or limit their ability to participate in client required programming
    2. Schedules and interviews applicants to determine new or continuing service needs; conduct in home interviews as necessary; investigate statements and information received from applicants using telephone or written verification evaluate information to establish eligibility
    3. Assess, formulate, and develop ·a service plan for client needs; develop goals and· plan of action; provide case management activities including identifying and assessing client needs; coordinate and monitor services; prepare reports and reassessment; advise and counsel clients regarding family, economic, physical and emotional situations
    4. Establish and maintain complete files; document case files as necessary; compose, prepare, and maintain correspondence and narratives on assigned cases; document case actions and complete required form; process actions related to eligibility for social services and ancillary services
    5. Answer questions; provide information, and explain policies, rules and regulations of the agency to applicants and clients; assist clients in preparing forms and reports
    6. Present orientations for community agencies; establish and maintain contacts with local organizations, nonprofit agencies, business and other interested groups in promoting community resource programs; initiate and mediate case conferences between workers and staff of service provider contractors
    7. Gather data, make recommendations, and prepare reports as required

    The Social Worker performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Possession of a baccalaureate degree, with major course work in social service.
    • One (1) year of experience as a social worker in a recognized social service agency.

    Substitution

    • One (1) year of graduate study in an accredited graduate school of social work or six (6) months of experience as a Social Worker Trainee may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

    Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

    One-year fulltime employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine fulltime employment.

    Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ): Candidates will be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

    Written Examination (Weight: 100%)
    Candidates who met the minimum qualifications will be sent an online written supplemental examination designed to measure competencies in job-related areas which may include but not be limited to:: knowledge of the general principles of behavioral sciences and social work; ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret data and information; the ability to exercise good judgment and decision making in a variety of situations; knowledge of general principles of interviewing; ability to understand, follow and interpret various laws, policies, rules, instructions, and regulations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people contacted in the course of work, such as parents, wards, coworkers, families, and outside agencies; and the ability to communicate in writing in a clear, concise, and effective manner when composing reports, case notes or records, emails, and completing forms.

    Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

    Certification

    The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of the List.

    The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
