The chief legal office for the state of Washington, the AGO's attorneys and staff in 31 divisions and 12 locations across the state provide legal services to roughly 200 state agencies, boards and commissions. Duties Operating under the supervision of the Policy Director and the Legislative Director, and working closely with other members of the policy and legislative teams, this position assists in developing and implementing the Attorney General's policy and legislative priorities and initiatives. Issues we work on include advancing and protecting the legal rights and interests of Washingtonians, including veterans, consumers, workers, immigrants, and seniors. The position reports to the Legislative Director and the Policy Director. Policy Development and Implementation: Assist the Policy Director and other members of the policy team in researching and analyzing issues to develop and implement the Attorney General's policy priorities and respond to emerging matters, including those that arise in constituent and other external communications. Research and draft policy memos, reports, white papers, outreach materials and content, proposed legislation, and other key deliverables to advance the Attorney General's policy priorities. Legislative Agenda Development and Implementation: Assist the Legislative Director in defining and advancing Attorney General request legislation and engaging in the legislative process on issues or bills that affect or could affect the work or policy priorities of the AGO. External Outreach: Under the direction of the Legislative Director and Policy Director, cultivate relationships with legislators, legislative staff, and representatives of state, tribal and local government, stakeholder groups, and the business community. Deliver consistent, accurate and useful information to external stakeholders in furtherance of the AGO's policy and legislative objectives. Internal Agency Engagement: Engage the expertise of the AGO attorneys and staff to help ensure the legislative and policy initiatives and work effectively complement the independent, legal mission of the AGO and leverage the rich legal experience and knowledge in the AGO. Qualifications Required Qualifications * Bachelors' degree from an accredited institution involving major study in public policy, law, political science, government, criminal justice, economics, or a related field; * One year or more of relevant professional or volunteer work experience. Desired Experience and Qualifications * Master's Degree or Juris Doctorate; * Non-English language skills.
