Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Nevada Department of Transportation, Public Service Internship Program is for full-time students working as temporary employees in a three-month position, starting May 16, 2022, ending August 12, 2022. For the 2022 summer, placement is possible in our Carson City or Reno locations working with our Structures, Construction, Traffic, Environmental, or Utilities divisions. This recruitment is for full-time students, currently enrolled and continued successful performance in a bachelors academic program in either Civil Engineering, Environmental, or closely related field, through an accredited college or university. Under general supervision, interns will receive training and complete a variety of assignments relating to highway maintenance, construction, inspection, plan review, design, and survey. Incumbents may be required to travel up to 50% of the time, work variable work schedules including nights and/or weekend, and work in field environment in various weather conditions. Incumbents are required to have and maintain a valid driver's license and have graduated from high school or high school equivalent at time of application.
