Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) is currently recruiting for a Correctional Sergeant. This position will be assigned to the Stein Forensic Building and C-Pod, a secure forensic facility/psychiatric hospital for mentally disordered offenders in Las Vegas. Incumbents function as supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Under the direction of the Correctional Lieutenant, the incumbent directly supervises Forensic Specialist IV positions. This position will have administrative responsibility for planning, organizing, supervising and assisting with subordinate staff; and maintaining the overall security of the facility by developing, implementing and adhering to policies and procedures. This position will serve as a member of the treatment team and sponsor clients and will also conduct internal investigations as assigned by the Director. The ideal candidate will have strong problem solving skills; sound judgment; great leadership skills; excellent organizational and planning skills; experience guiding and developing subordinates, as well as the ability to build a productive team; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and flexibility and adaptability as required by this position. Special Notes Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards Training (POST-Category 3) requirements including the physical agility testing as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. Current departmental staff will not be required to go through a background check, fingerprinting or the prescreening for controlled substances.
