Trackman I Job ID: 32962 Department: Rail Transit Location: PATH Consolidated Shop Responsibilities Play a vital role in the construction, maintenance, repairs, and dismantles of track and the appurtenances thereto including right-of-way maintenance as required. Trackmen are also responsible for loading and unloading of materials from vehicles or work trains; handling ballast; clearing brush and debris from the right-of-way; handling and installing cross ties and switch timbers, rails, guard rails, spikes, and other fasteners such as switch materials, tie plates, rail anchors, and joint bars. Working conditions may include railroad, tunnel and outdoor environments in close proximity to active railroad tracks. PATH is a 24 hour, 7 days-a-week operation and Trackmen will be required to work rotating shifts (am, pm, midnights, weekends, holidays and overtime if necessary). Qualifications Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position: * High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution. * One-year experience in heavy construction maintenance and electrical repairs. * Trackmen must be able to carry and use such tools as: spike mauls, claw bars, lining bars, track jacks, air and gasoline tramping guns, jackhammers, and other tools normally associated with track work and other right-of-way maintenance. * Knowledge and experience with hand tools and powers tools. * Ability to work rotating shifts (am, pm, midnight, weekends and holidays). Testing Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam designed to measure a candidate's knowledge in areas such as: * Basic Math Test (Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide Whole Numbers, Fractions and Decimals) * Industrial Reading Test * Mechanical Reasoning Test. Successful candidates who qualify on the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral interview. The PATH Entry Level Maintenance oral exam is designed to measure the candidate's work experience, skills and abilities in areas such as: Situational Judgment; Problem Sensitivity; Safety Orientation; and Oral Communication. Only candidates who qualify on both the written exam and oral interview will be eligible for further consideration and will be subject to a comprehensive background check. Compensation & Benefits Starting Salary: $20.25 hourly. Trackman are eligible for annual step increases up to an hourly salary of $28.64 (subject to collective bargaining agreement).
