General Maintainer Job ID: 31009 Department: Human Resources Location: Various NY/NJ Facilities Responsibilities The Port Authority of NY & NJ is seeking to fill skilled-trade GENERAL MAINTAINERS in various NY/NJ Facilities. Starting Salary: $15.98 hourly. This is a temporary position that offers benefits and the possibility of permanent employment. Permanent General Maintainers are eligible for annual step increases up to $26.62 per hour (subject to collective bargaining agreement). The Port Authority of NY & NJ is seeking candidates with well-rounded experience in a variety of manual and semi-skilled construction trades for the Building Construction/General Maintainer (GM) position. General Maintainers are general laborers who carry-out critical maintenance work that enable our facilities to remain safe and operational for the traveling public. General Maintainers are placed at one of the Port Authoritys facilities in the New York/New Jersey region and perform work that typically requires the use of general maintenance skills and knowledge of a variety of trade fields such as: carpentry, landscaping, painting, paving, roofing, snow removal for commercial property, gardening, and structural and mechanical maintenance. This position requires a knowledge of materials, tools, blueprint reading and equipment of these trades. Important Notes: * This is a temporary position that offers benefits and the possibility of permanent employment. * The temporary General Maintainer position is often the entry-point for many maintenance career paths at the Port Authority. Temporary General Maintainers have the opportunity to compete for promotional titles, such as Auto Mechanic, Structural Mechanic, and Trades Helper Electrician. * Candidates who do not possess a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) will be provided the on-the-job training needed to obtain their CDL. * General Maintainers work a 40-hour week, which includes rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed, during inclement weather and emergencies.
