    Job Description

    The Transit Priority Team is a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative team leading delivery of Muni Forward projects that improve reliability on San Francisco’s busiest transit corridors. These projects are part of Muni Forward, a transformative program that is making the city’s transit system more efficient, reliable, and equitable. The team has implemented over 100 miles of Muni Forward transit priority upgrades since 2014, with an ambitious set of new projects planned in the years ahead.     This position will play a key role in Muni Forward planning and implementation. Under general supervision of the Transit Priority Manager, the 5288 Transportation Planner II performs planning work in support of Muni Forward, including data collection and analysis, outreach support, mapping, writing reports, coordinating with other groups, and other general transit planning tasks.

    Transit priority planning is unique in that it combines both transit service planning and street design components. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in both of these fields and is passionate about improving public transportation in San Francisco for all riders.

    Examples of Important and Essential Duties:

    1. Supports the development and outreach of Muni Forward transit priority projects.
    2. Prepares materials for public and stakeholder meetings and assists in presentations to various community and policy making groups.
    3. Prepares correspondence in response to public or other agency inquiries.
    4. Analyzes and summarizes project before/after results for non-technical audiences.
    5. Collects, compiles and reviews data concerning transportation activities, such as passenger surveys on Muni buses and trains to develop recommendations or interpret results obtained from project implementation.
    6. Designs, prepares, and/or directs the preparation of visual materials including graphs, charts, maps and models to illustrate presentations of transportation projects.
    7. Coordinates back-end process to advance Muni Forward projects (i.e. SFMTA Board reports, progress reports etc.
    8. Evaluates transit data and information such as on-time performance, ridership, schedules, and maintenance performance information.
    9. Analyzes and presents geospatial data to support transit initiatives.
    10. Develops and prepares signage and customer information in support of transit priority projects.
    11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Nature of Work : Some positions may require possession of a valid driver license and may be occasionally required to work evenings.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    _ Minimum Qualifications:_
    Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

    1. Possession of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Transportation, Transportation Engineering, Public Administration or other closely related field; OR
    2. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university preferably in transportation, mass transit planning or other closely related field; AND two (2) years of transit planning and/or transportation planning experience.

    Substitution:

    1. Additional transit planning and/or transportation planning experience beyond the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for year basis.
    2. Additional post-graduate education as described in item 1 of the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 semester units/45 quarter units equal one (1) year of experience).

    Notes:

    1. One year full-time experience is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time experience.

    _ Desirable Qualifications:_
    The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

    1. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, GIS and Adobe Illustrator.
    3. Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment and respond quickly and effectively to unanticipated circumstances.
    4. A strong interest in enhancing urban multimodal transportation networks and a strong sense of advocacy for public transportation.
    5. Strong data analysis skills, as well as the ability to analyze complex problems.
    6. Familiarity with the Muni transit network and with San Francisco’s multimodal transportation network in general.
    7. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, collaboratively, professionally, tactfully, and being a team player.
    8. Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish and/or Chinese.
